'The Grey' Producer Developing Female Version of 'The Expendables'

It's no surprise that The Expendables 2 took the box office this past weekend, and the action veteran team even added a lady this time around with Nan Yu as Maggie. However, it sounds like we're going to get a bunch of fighting females sometime down the road as Variety reports The Grey and Killing Them Softly producer Adi Shankar and his 1984 Private Defense Contractors production banner have tapped up and coming writer Dutch Southern to write an all-female take on the ensemble action franchise. No specific names have been mentioned, but the company is already in talks with several prominent ladies of action.
We don't have any other details as of now, but this sounds like it could be a blast for men and women alike. Off the top of my head, I'm already picturing Sigourney Weaver, Milla Jovovich, Kate Becnkinsale, Michelle Rodriguez, Lucy Lawless, Linda Hamilton, Uma Thurman, Zoe Saldana and Michelle Yeoh. I think that's a prime mix of some bad-ass ladies right there. Our friends at Screen Rant actually already thought of a stellar list of ladies for a film like this before the idea actually manifested itself in the news this weekend, so be sure to check that out for more fuel to the fire. Sound good?

Oh, don't get me wrong--we loved The Expendables. It was a lot of fun and definitely not to be taken seriously. I just don't see the need for the female version.

Version? Why not just the Expendables 3. Or 4. It may actually end up better, but still I'm sure Sly and the Gang would be more than happy to give the ladies their props.
