Internet Got Michael Bay to Put Mark Wahlberg in 'Transformers 4'?

Optimus Prime / Mark Wahlberg

Just a couple weeks ago, there was a rumor going around that Michael Bay was looking to put Mark Wahlberg in Transformers 4 after meeting with the actor following their work on Pain & Gain. However, Bay quickly debunked the rumor saying: "The Mark Wahlberg T4 rumor is just a rumor. Mark and I are talking about another film project." However, either Bay isn't very good with flip-flopping or the Internet gave him a fantastic idea, because on Halloween (via Comic Book Movie), Bay updated his blog to reveal in a very roundabout way that he's working with the screenwriter to get Wahlberg a part in the sequel.

Bay wrote this statement on his own blog:

I squashed a rumor that was on the internet last week. It was about Mark Walhberg. Mark was rumored to be staring in Transformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4. I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain and Gain, and he gave such a great performance – well let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter.

So the casting isn't set in stone, but it sounds like Bay is creating a role for Wahlberg, or maybe just tailoring an already existing character for the sequel. Wahlberg would be an interesting addition as he has great action and comedy chops, both of which can be utilized in Transformers. However, it's not clear how big his role would be either. Recent rumors suggested the film would follow a young, female protagonist and her boyfriend, switching up the dynamic of Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox/Rosie Huntington-Whiteley just a bit. Anyway, it's still early, but we'll try to keep you updated on Transformers 4. Thoughts?

Dear Mr Bay, could this movie be a bit more about "those" robots and not about some new couple which survives happily ever after again!?

Dear Mr. Bay, would it be possible to make the explosions even bigger? Like when something explodes have another 5 explosions come out of them? That would be amazing. I know you're a genius Michael, so just go with your cocaine addled ego and get creative!

Carpola on Nov 7, 2012

there was in the beginning all this umming and arring are people gonna feel for the robots.. are there gna be expressions and emotions that cinema goers can engage with... well after 3 films the answer is yes and its worked brilliantly... but still they do not trust themselves to leave the human element out of 80% of the film... people know the characters and they could take this story off world to cybertron.. for some epic story.... with much less stupid...not to the point human elements in the story....the universe is there to explore... not another bf/gf couple exploring their relationship!!!!! done in leave it heres wishing ay ha

Where was Michael Bay when everyone across the internet "chatted" about how horrible these movies are and how great it would be if they weren't made anymore? And why didn't he listen to those people? This sounds like he's trying to leave the impression that the internet community has a word in the making of his films, that they are taking part in the creative process. Nice try. Actually, not so nice...

"Where was Michael Bay when everyone across the internet "chatted" about how horrible these movies are and how great it would be if they weren't made anymore? " If someone went up to you and said "Hey, do you want to continue to make millions of dollars doing exactly what you're already doing?" Would you really give a shit about what people say in the comments section of some film blog?

axalon on Nov 7, 2012

Probably not, and that goes for both negative and pozitive comments. There's nothing wrong in making lots of money doing whatever (as long as it's legal, I guess) but that's beside the point. Suddenly, Michael Bay listens to people and to their suggestions, encouraging them to get involved. That I don't buy.

I really don't get you people!!! How do you make a transformers movie and have it realistic?! It's gotta have military in it. It's gotta have a story with humans. Otherwise it's just gonna be all chaotic with robots storming through the cities shooting. Than you guys would just complain about how there was no story!!! Just action, no plot! Michael Bay didn't write any of the last movies. He just directed!! Sure he had ideas but The Studios, Hasbro, Producers, and everybody else agreed to them. How about you tell me a good story idea to reboot the transformers instead of just bitching! Like you always do!

The_Phantom on Nov 7, 2012

I would actually say reboot some of the cartoon stories some of them were great, even the simple concept of transformers from the cartoon series got lost. Pretty simple concept war on another planet both sides are running out of resources they look elsewhere they find it on earth they try and extract it the other side tries and stop them.

Dear Mr. Bay, will Mr. Wahlberg really have a significant role in TF4? More than just talking to animals? Thanks.

Bayhem's negotiates a pay rise by saying "this is my last Transformers movie, no more". A truckload of money later and he's back directing again.

When The Script is Nothing and Some Metallic Ironic Robots have even more soul and flesh than Human Beings , for me isn't any difference between presence of mark wahlberg or marlon brando in such movies.(fan of transformers anyway)

*sigh*! if michael bay IS making another Transformers, can he PLEASE be more serious with his Cybertronian characters?! The first three movies, were a big joke to entertain 27-39 year old children. When you make a movie adapted off of something, and the something wasn't that impressive as an original (like a hand-drawn cartoon series sponsored by Korea), then you at least need to turn that something into a film that is rewarding on ALL levels--not just visual effects. Seriously, did ANYONE, who didn't read the novellizations, have sympathy for ANY of the Autobots (or even humans) in the first three movies?
