Universal Pulls Joe Kosinski's Sci-Fi 'Oblivion' to April 2013 from July

Briefly: Interesting date change to report on, via Deadline. Universal Pictures has rescheduled the original release date for Joseph Kosinski's (Tron Legacy) new sci-fi movie, titled Oblivion or Horizons, that's set to star Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko and Morgan Freeman, from July to April 26th, 2013. While next summer was already starting to look crowded, I was nervous about how big of an impact this sci-fi, supposedly set on another barren planet, would have in July, opening near that coveted "Batman" weekend. But now they've backed off setting it to open as one of the early-summer starters, the weekend just before May. Interesting choice. I'm very excited to see what Kosinski's second epic sci-fi outing looks like, bring it.

Not too shocking. Universal had Oblivion set for July 19th, 2013...then they announced that Jurassic Park in 3D would get that date. It's crazy...they move their big, original sci-fi blockbuster out of a GREAT weekend and put a re-release there instead...they must have great faith in that film's ability to re-attact audiences...or they are going to promote the hell out of it as they would any other blockbuster. Or both.

The weekend before Iron Man 3? Doesn't sound that good of an idea.

IF Iron Man 3 makes the release date...things can always change. But I remember people saying Fast Five opening the weekend before Thor was a dumb idea, and it ended up working out great, Fast Five became the unofficial first movie of the summer season. Oblivion is likely looking to do the same. Also...that was another Universal film, so yeah...probably the same strategy.

Cruises movies always been well made and I seem to be the only one who became a lifetime fan after the couch jump. To have the balls to jump Oprahs couch declaring his love, honest or not got my undying fandom. on another note Oblivion sounds cool lets see a trailer

Late to the game, but I'll give my contrary point of view : I HATE Cruise. This movie is dead for me. Nobody cares, I know, but I just can't stand the guy or the actor.
