Vince Vaughn

With a production banner called Wild West Picture Show Productions, it's no secret that Vince Vaughn is a western fan. However, the actor himself has yet to step into Wild West territory on the big screen and has only seen action in films like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jurassic Park: The Lost World and Starsky & Hutch (though he's sure to get plenty of sci-fi action in The Watch). But it sounds like that might change with a new project called Gunslingers from a pitch by Braveheart writer Randall Wallace, which Deadline reports has just been purchased by New Regency as a starring vehicle for Vaughn that he will also produce.

Though the official logline is under wraps, Deadline says the story is an action adventure set in contemporary Los Angeles where heroes and icons from the past find themselves colliding with the urban reality of the City of Angels. It apparently involves two main characters, likely one of them to be played by Vaughn, and sounds a bit like reverse Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, but with an action twist. My bet is that two of the Wild West's most famous gunslingers somehow find themselves transported in time, and there will be some comedy mixed in with the action. Maybe this could be another project for Owen Wilson to team up with Vaughn, but a real action star might be needed to up the ante in that department. Stay tuned.
