Tom Cruise

Later this year we'll see Tom Cruise rocking hard in his first musical as Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages, but it sounds like the superstar now has the singing bug. Deadline has word that Warner Bros. is courting Cruise to take the lead role in the remake of A Star is Born from director Clint Eastwood. While the film was looking to start production last month, in August of last year, we learned that Beyoncé Knowles, who has already been cast in the film, had caused a delay due to her pregnancy. Now that the singer turned actress and her husband Jay-Z have had their child, Warner Bros. is anxious to get the project back on track.

Names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Russell Crowe and even Christian Bale have been a point of focus for the lead role of an over-the-hill musician who helps launch the career of a young promising talent with whom he falls in love. As of now, Cruise's involvement is not official as a deal has not been made and it's not clear if the actor's schedule, which still has Oblivion from Joseph Kosinski slotted, will allow hi to take the role; not to mention We Mortals Are, the adaptation of All You Need is Kill from Doug Liman. Knowing that Cruise really sings like a champ in Rock of Ages, I have to say that this sounds like a match.

I love Tom Cruise. I love the James Mason 'A Star is Born.' I love Clint Eastwood (sans J.  Edgar). Let this happen. Let it be good.

I love Clint Eastwood, but are an eighty year old man and a fifty year old millionaire who believes in aliens really the right people to build a film about youthful, energetic and sleazy eighties buttrock? This thing will be an even worse shit show than the crass garbage musical that preceded it.

The past decade of Eastwood's career has been his best directorial speaking. Mystic River, Changeling, Letters From Iwo Jima, and Gran Torino should be enough to overshadow the few mistakes he's had. Point: Age shouldn't have any bearing when thats considered. Also, this type of flick is exactly what a director like Eastwood is great at. It's a character piece true and true.  Tom Cruise is an exceptional actor. There aren't many other actors in our era who you could literately name 20 movies for which they are famous. Ghost Protocol proved he's young and in touch enough, even at 50. Not that its necessary though, especially considering the type of role he'd be playing. And really, the aliens thing has absolutely nothing to do with talent.

great post and I agree with you 🙂 Cruise can pull off this role easily and anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant and should take a glance at his filmography
