Watch: 30-Minute 'Tron: Uprising' Prequel Episode 'Beck's Beginning'
by Ethan Anderton
May 14, 2012
We've already featured a couple trailers for Tron: Uprising, the promising animated series that will help bridge the gap between the original 1982 film and the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy. Before the new series debuts on Disney XD this summer on June 7th, a prelude called Beck’s Beginning, will air on the flagship Disney Channel on May 18th. However, for those who don't want to wait a few more days, Disney has posted the 30-minute prequel episode in its entirety over at YouTube. This is a really slick introduction to the stylish new series, and I really hope it keeps audiences excited for a Tron: Legacy follow-up. Watch!
Here's the Tron: Uprising prequel episode Beck's Beginning which Disney posted on YouTube:
Produced by Disney Television Animation, Tron: Uprising follows Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. Beck leads his family and world in revolution against the tyrannical Clu and his No. 2, General Tesler (voiced by Lance Henriksen). Fortunately, Beck has been trained to fight by the top warrior in all of this digitized world, Tron (voiced, of course, by Bruce Boxleitner). The voice cast also includes Emmanuelle Chriqui as Paige, Mandy Moore as Mara, Nate Corddry as Zed, Paul Reubens as Pavel and Reginald VelJohnson as Able. Tron Uprising the animated series will start airing on Disney XD this summer on June 7th with a prelude called Tron: Uprising, Beck’s Beginning, airing on the flagship Disney Channel on May 18th . Looking good?

Dear Mr. Mickey Mouse: I love being kept out of the loop. This "only-for- americanos-YT-crap" is so out of date.

I don't know if I'll like this new Beck guy. He was a badass, saying he'll never stop and he'll do anything to defeat Clu, and then literally two minutes later, he turns yellow, and is hesitant to even think about going after Clu. Plus, Frodo's voice is coming out of his face...

i had the same thought with Batman Beyond, royally bold in taking out bad guys until he faces one he cant beat then the potential mentor wants him to be the next hero...might as well call this 'Tron Beyond' not dissing it though, this is pretty good......

Yeah. But I liked BATMAN BEYOND. In TRON UPRISING his cowardice was so overt. I could not help but comment. It was in-your-face obvious. The music in this show is great. Its like the Daft Punk stuff, but a little less aggressive. I am a little scared it may get repetitive fast.

im sure it will be that way for the first dozen episodes but will slowly take on that whole developing hero thing and i think there was only one song from the episode that didn't come from the Tron soundtrack and it was playing while he was introducing his friends......

It's because they wrote this episode (and probably future episodes) based on the typical "Hero's Journey". One of the first things that happens in that basic plot outline is that there's a call to adventure, and then a subsequent refusal of the call on the part of the hero. A metric buttload of movies follow this same basic plot outline, mainly because it's so universal and generally well recieved by audiences. Which, btw, makes it totally different from the two live-action movies. Those didn't follow the Monomyth, even though they did stick a few bit from it in there. I think the writers were trying to work it in out of habit, even though the basic premise of the films makes that story structure impossible to pull off properly.

Agreed. I know the formula too, its just sometimes the de rigueur gets, well...de rigueur. You know?

Yeah, it's pretty heavy-handed in this show. The refusal doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Aside from that, tho, It doesn't look half bad. If this is supposed to take place before Legacy, then they're gonna have to really work to make the Rinzler thing work. Also, Flynn should be in the grid now, right? He supposedly did fight for a while before he went into hiding, yeah? And then the ISOs will probably show up in this as well... Meh...

Who CARES! This thing looks like shit! Where's the REVOLUTION trailer!

If this is popular enough, then they'll greenlight another Tron movie. If no one watches it, then they'll assume no one gives a shit about Tron and you won't get another movie. So if you want another Tron movie, watch this and tell everyone it's awesome. Even if it's a lie.

I will actually watch this because I'm a fan of Tron

Actually dont like the Beck Character. Voiceover really doesn't fit, imo. A really bad weak link to have imo, as the rest looks and sounds good...

Voice does not match the character design at all. FAIL.

Thank you Disney, you have just picked up a male viewer. Love the art style, voice actors and I find the plot to be interesting. Keep up the good work. PS - Love the music.

slight nitpick, I heard blatant Inception music plagiarism starting at the 23:10 mark, but I'll definitely be watching this show

This is beautifully crafted, and extremely well executed. The target demo is getting something truly unique and incredibly sophisticated. Great job Disney for respecting the intelligence of your audience. ...and yes the 'heroes journey' has been told thousands of times but for many young viewers this will be an exciting introduction to the archetype. I can't wait to see more! Zax

It's hard to impress the meh generation. But I really enjoyed it. Not a big fan of the art style... The characters are ugly but the grid is beautiful. I LOVED the train.

Loved it. Amazing how so many have written it off just based off of one show. Man this is just a prelude of much more to come. I'm hooked, alot of room for character development and grid enhancement. The characters are well placed, changing nothing. Two thumbs up.

This is stupid. I mean who had the idea to block Tron Uprising so that fans from other countries like Britain, Germany, Japan, Brazil and many other counties in the world to not watch it. yes, it's american and it's made in america but that doesn't mean that american's can watch it and others can't. This is bull shit! I will actually hunt down the person who block Tron Uprising and beat the fucking crap out of him and tell him. "Why the fuck did you block Tron Uprising you stupid twat". Sorry about my strong language but seriously who the hell block Tron Uprising. WHO!
