Watch: Amusing New 'IMAX is Believing' Branding Video Released
"A ticket to somewhere else!" The upcoming summer for IMAX is going to be rather epic, not only with The Dark Knight Rises coming in July featuring nearly an hour of footage shot in IMAX, but The Avengers kicks this off this weekend playing in IMAX 3D as well. They've also got Ridley Scott's Prometheus coming up, The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. IMAX has recently launched a new branding video to to promote: IMAX is Believing. The video features testimonials outside of IMAX theaters (like we used to record!) talking about how amazing the experience of seeing an IMAX movie is. It's fun, check it out!
For more info on their new IMAX is Believing slogan and campaign, visit IMAXisbelieving.com. I'm a bigger supporter of IMAX when the movies are actually shot on IMAX, which is usually only one big movie a year (The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2 in 2013). But they still have some epic event movies playing on IMAX this summer that will look even better on the huge, booming IMAX screens. I've done enough hyping of my own now, it's up to you to voice your opinion in support of IMAX, like the folks in the video. Expect to see this promo playing around movie theaters this weekend. "IMAX has nothing to do with seeing a movie and everything to do with believing in one. Take a journey to the very edge of reality."
What music on the video?

Well, I do have to admit, when I saw The Avengers in IMAX 3D three weeks ago, it was pretty amazing. However, I'm sure that was more so the film, than the fact it was on an IMAX screen.

Everything I've seen on an IMAX screen has been incredible so far. IMAX 3D is simply the only way I'll watch 3D in the cinema, since they use the much better active shutter glasses instead of passive ones. Can't wait to see Avengers in IMAX 3D on Monday 😀

I feel like there is a bit of false advertising going on. The commercial, and all of the movie clips are shown in a widescreen ratio. Some of the clips from the movies were at a 16:9 ration, but most looked like they were the "standard" 2.35:1. Either way, they are much wider than the IMAX ratio of 1.44:1 which isn't much wider than the old 4:3. I personally can't stand watching movies in that aspect ratio.

Too bad IMAX eats your money

I was surprised to find out that IMAX 3D is only about 2 dollars more than regular 3D in my area.

IMAX has diluted it's brand through confusing consumers on native film format. You can go see an amazing IMAX movie that was shot completely in IMAX and then you can go see a movie like The Dark Knight with the same expectation and be severely disappointed because it wasn't shot in IMAX and the conversion was poor. Even the wiki is written to confuse--it looks like IMAX owns the wiki and words it so it's difficult to tell what is IMAX and what pretends to be IMAX appearing in an IMAX theater.
