Watch: Boozed Up Trailer for Sundance Sci-Fi Comedy 'Grabbers'
"If we taint our blood with booze, we're poisonous to eat." Time for a little drunken Irish fun. A new trailer has arrived online for a Sundance midnight film titled Grabbers, a sci-fi comedy with weird alien creatures that invade a sleepy fishing village off the West coast of Ireland. The cast includes Richard Coyle (W.E, Prince of Persia) and Ruth Bradley (Flyboys, "Love/Hate") and lots of other boozed up local actors who all look like they had fun making this. It looks like quite a bit of low budget, wacky, alcoholic craziness, but I'm not sure the sci-fi element plays much. The song they use is "Black Keys" by The Minutes - check it out!
Watch the first official trailer for Jon Wright's Grabbers, originally posted on YouTube:
Directed by Irish filmmaker Jon Wright (Tormented), from a script by Kevin Lehane, Grabbers tells the story of Ciarán O'Shea, a charming but heavy-drinking local Garda who is tasked with greeting Lisa Nolan, a straight-laced young officer who has just arrived to a small fishing village off the West coast of Ireland. But strange doings are afoot: the crew of a fishing boat disappears, whales start appearing dead on the shore, a local lobsterman catches a strange tentacled creature in his trap. Soon it becomes clear to O'Shea and Nolan that there's something big out there, and that it's hungry. IFC Midnight will release, but hasn't set a date yet.

Having spent a few summers in Mayo, it actually doesn't seem that different to my experiences there, minus the squid monsters, I only caught Mackerel when I went fishing. The film looks good too!

Hmmm... I love low budget horror done right and this premise has a lot of potential, but there isn't much bite to the trailer and thinking about it, I'm not sure our heroes all being drunk for half the proceedings will make a very satisfying movie? I'll certainly check it out on dvd with my fingers crossed.
