Watch: Chloe Moretz and Blake Lively in Red Band Trailer for 'Hick'

April 26, 2012
Source: Yahoo! Movies

After directing the quirky, funny festival favorite Lymelife, director Derick Martini is back with a completely different kind of film. The adaptation of Andrea Portes' novel Hick follows a 13-year-old Nebraska girl (Chloe Moretz), who gets more than she bargained for when she runs away to Las Vegas and finds herself under the tutelage of Glenda (Blake Lively), a hard-living grifter who takes the young girl under her wing. Now the first red band trailer gives us a taste of the gritty, edgy drama, but it's still fairly tame with the only real controversial material being the focus on a 13-year old girl being risque and violent. Watch below!

Here's the red band trailer for Derick Martini's adaptation of Hick from Yahoo! Movies:

Derick Martini (Lymelife) directs this adaptation of Hick adapted by Andrea Portes, author of the novel on which the film is based. The story follows Luli (Chloe Moretz), a 13-year-old Nebraskan girl, and her rough life of crime and seduction on the road after she runs away from her neglectful parents. Taken in by Glenda (Blake Lively), a hard-living grifter, the two take Las Vegas by storm, guns in hand. Eddie Redmayne, Rory Culkin, Juliette Lewis and Alec Baldwin also co-star in the adaptation which is slated to hit UltraVOD on May 8th and heads to select theaters starting on May 11th at the beginning of the summer. i think chloe moretz is wasted on this........and how did she end up in a movie with blake lively?.....she's(lively)  terrible.

beevis on Apr 26, 2012

The film was made for Moretz. Her mother and brother are co-producers. Originally, Lively's role was supposed to be filled by Kirsten Dunst but Dunst had scheduling conflicts, hence Lively.

thanks - i knew there had to be an explanation

beevis on Apr 26, 2012

because Dunst is much better than

What's wrong with blake lively, she was amazing in the town, i think shes coming along quite nicely

HazedMind on Apr 29, 2012

sorry hazed - i wasn't trying to knock anyones preference.....i just don't think lively is a very good actress. we can all like who we want.

it doesn't look bad...but that trailer was awful. And I honestly didn't see one thing that could make that a "red band" trailer

Danimal on Apr 26, 2012

That trailer was edited one minute too damn long. And using words such as "BRUTAL/CONTROVERSIAL/VIOLENT" to describe your own damn movie (without actually showing ANY of those things, I might add) seems desperate...

It looks sick and twisted to me.  But it has me interested.  Am I sick for that? God, I hope not. Love the music.

HOLY S**T.  Even this trailer makes me uncomfortable.  It looks like a weird strange movie, and from what I've read, it seems impossible to make a trailer that shows how ugly and dark this movie goes.   I may completely regret it but I am going to see this.

I dunno. Doubt I'll ever watch this. Hillbilly peado violence never does it for me really.

Crapola on Apr 26, 2012

Yahoo's player strikes again...shit. Moretz and Redmayne make it s must see. Am I the only one that wants Mara and Moretz to star along side each other?

Xerxexx on Apr 26, 2012

Oh my GAWWWD! I am so excited to see this movie. I hear Eddie Redmayne is off the chain brilliant!

Kellymadisonlong on Apr 26, 2012

saw this at TIFF - it was beyond AWFUL.  Take my word on this and save 2 hours of your life you'll never get back

Grapea on Apr 26, 2012

saw it at TIFF too.  Wouldn't say awful.  Weird is more like it.  Definitely unlike Martini's Lymelife.  This is not a crowd pleaser.  It's hardcore old school Requeim For A Dream like indie.  Pretty much the same effect as that movie.  Didn't love either of those films, but it seems like these directors like to go "dark" and "gritty" for whatever self indulgent reasons.  Great acting in Hick though.  Also a really funny/weird sequence w/Redmayne, Moretz, Lively and Ray McKinnon which is worth watching just for that scene.  It's totally ridiculous but I'll never forget it.

Cool! This looks kinda like Lolita from the POV of Lolita. I must say I like it. BL's accent did sound a "little" fake though..

Davide Coppola on Apr 26, 2012

I heard about that scene with Ray McKinnon, too.

Kellymadisonlong on Apr 26, 2012

Ooooh. The comparison to Requiem for a Dream actually makes this sound very promising to me. Apparently I am very receptive to emotionally devastating movies that send me to the brink of suicide for a few hours after watching them, haha. 😉

Without doubt Chloe and Bailee Madison are greatest low age actresses in decade, they beat dakota,Elle fanning,Abigail Breslin Cause is they didn't impress from getting old, but others become loose and spent. Chole in kick-ass was unforgettable and I hope she appear in sin city sequels(specially 3) But if they choose careers like other they fail, they must play in original, enjoiable, fun flicks that doesnt match with their age not mean ones, They promise kick-ass 2 whit Chloe but they was big lie. I love Chloe and Bailee madison play in kids movie with serious films like bridge to terbitia or orphan or even kick-ass This movie (red band) I think is miscareer for Chloe

Ehsan Davodi on Apr 26, 2012

I prefer Elle Fanning. Overall she does better movies too IMO. But yea the other actresses you mention are good too..

Davide Coppola on Apr 27, 2012

OK, this has to be said: Google Translate really needs fixing.

David Banner on Apr 26, 2012

does Chloe get nekkid?

Big Boss Bob on Apr 26, 2012

I like dark movies. Who wants to go to the movies to just feel good? That's what drugs are for. I'm going to see this one. Eff it.

Looks like much ado about nothing. The trailer was nothing, the film looks like nothing. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to feel when I'm watching it, but it didn't entice me to see the film or even make me think it was about "anything" worthwhile. In fact, using the text came across as a desperate attempt at giving it some impact, but failed. just my 2 cents worth.

Kudos to Eddie Redmayne agents for following "My Week with Marilyn" with this.

motionmedia on Apr 27, 2012

This looks good, Chloe Moretz is becoming quite a good actress...

Bazzmosis on Apr 27, 2012

Okay...WTF?  This looks like it's selling a really dark film.  If it's not that dark I will be super pissed and want my money back.  Also the "red band" makes me a little dubious.  Why a red band?
