Earlier this year we caught a brief glimpse at a new documentary called Sound City which was going to be directed by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. The film chronicles the history of the titular recording studio in Van Nuys, California where many iconic names have recorded albums. Grohl's history with the studio goes back to the 1991 recording of Nirvana's album Nevermind, and the musician began his documentary on the studio after purchasing the same Neve 8028 analog recording console from the studio, so it has a personal touch as well. As someone who loves music almost as much as movies, this looks great.
Here's the first trailer for Dave Grohl's Sound City, originally found via HitFix:
Foo Fighters frontman and Sound City director Dave Grohl has said this documentary is "about America's greatest unsung recording studio. Deep in California's sun-burnt San Fernando Valley, it was the birthplace of legend. It was witness to history." Mark Monroe (The Cove, The Tillman Story) wrote this documentary that also features interviews with groups and musicians like Rage Against the Machine, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Nirvana, John Fogerty, Trent Reznor and many more. Grohl is also distributing the film independently through his Roswell Films banner, but no release date has been set just yet. Stay tuned.
