"The legend goes, the Devil himself lives in these woods…" Anchor Bay & Voltage Pictures have debuted a trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman's The Barrens, his latest horror-thriller, this one set out in the woods. Stephen Moyer stars as the father of two daughters who he is taking on a camping trip to the rustic forests of southern New Jersey. There he encounters what might be Satan himself. Mia Kirshner ("The Vampire Diaries"), Erik Knudsen (Scream 4) and Allie MacDonald (House At The End Of The Street) co-star in this twisted chiller about a new kind of horror that lives–and kills–in a place called The Barrens. Have fun!
Here's the first trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman's The Barrens, embedded from ShockTillYouDrop:
It’s known as the Jersey Devil, the winged beast spawned 400 years ago by Satan himself. Some say this creature still inhabits the dense forests of southern New Jersey, where Richard (Moyer) takes his family for a camping trip. As they venture further into the woods in search of a campsite, Richard teeters on the edge of sanity. And it seems that the blood-crazed demon called the Jersey Devil may no longer be a myth.
The Barrens is written & directed by horror filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman, of Saw II-IV, Mother's Day, Repo! The Genetic Opera, 11-11-11 and The Devil's Carnival. This was filmed outside of Toronto last year. The Barrens will hit limited theaters starting September 28th. You can request local screenings on Tugg.

I know it's a cliche but i'm starting to appreciate directors who struggle to maintain this genre. Few people understand how hard and crafty it is to make a horror movie especially these days when everything needs a reboot. Really, start ignoring the clishee and appreciate THE EFFORT.

agreed - and adding to what you said - throw in a smart-ass, jaded public....many of which seem to hate on everything - and it compounds the issue. i thought this looked ok - i like how the fathers sanity is being affected and it looks like the forest they've chosen is capturing the right atmosphere. if the acting holds up and the dialogue isn't too cheesy, this could be a decent watch.

I guess they couldn't get rights to the jersey devil, the local legend here in the pine barrens, so they just made it "the devil"

So it's Blair Witch project mixed with The Village. Nice. Let me go ahead and call it first: The father becomes posessed. End credits.

I've been to the Pine Barrens, and that is clearly not the Pine Barrens. The Pine Barrens are quite flat, sandy, and the trees are scraggly.

Anything that has Darren Lynn Bousman attached to it, I'll probably watch it. Probably my favorite young horror director.
