John Carter Super Bowl Spot

"You are John Carter of Earth?" "Yes." Disney has debuted a new TV spot for their upcoming sci-fi John Carter, which I still think should've been left John Carter of Mars. While the original version shown during the Super Bowl was only 30 seconds, they debuted an extended version online featuring another 30 more seconds of footage, but it's still nothing we haven't really seen before in other footage. Taylor Kitsch, also seen in Battleship, stars as John Carter, with Lynn Collins, Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, Dominic West and Ciarán Hinds. I definitely think this looks better as we near its release, only about a month left.

Watch the official Super Bowl TV spot for Andrew Stanton's John Carter, in HD via YouTube:

John Carter (of Mars) is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic sci-fi adventures, telling of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Collins). Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. John Carter is directed by Pixar alum Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) from a screenplay by Mark Andrews, Michael Chabon & Stanton. Disney is bringing John Carter to theaters in 3D eveywhere starting March 9th, 2012 this spring.

Disney's advertising department seems determined to kill this film.

it's been said at length before about how seminal this story is, but i agree that Disney seems to be going all out to tell people, 'Watch this film, because... er... it's a lot like films you have already seen!' the only trailer i've seen that outlines one of its key differentiators to the average movie goer who has not read the book - the fact that the film will start on Earth in the Civil War - is the Japanese one (https://www.firstshowing.net/2011/watch-japanese-trailer-for-john-carter-has-plenty-of-new-footage/), and the film advertised in that trailer is more intriguing than the one featured here.

I didn't know they had a 4th member to the blue man group, or is that William Wallace there?

Doc... exactly! Does anyone who is a part of making this film realize that the guy giving the speech to rally the troops against all odds is carrying a sword, wearing something akin to a kilt AND covered in blue goop? Mel Gibson should sue them.... Such an obvious reference in, I'm assuming, a critical moment in the film that is going to make the viewer ONLY think of another film? Bad idea folks...

Andrew Stanton = Vanilla. This movie is playing it way too safe. The creature designs looks absurd.

Why does John Carter seem to have superhuman abilities?  He is just a human on another planet right?  It appears he has super strength and is able to jump really high which might be due to a difference in gravity, but I was hoping someone could enlighten me.

He's not burdened by gravity.

Xerxexx on Feb 6, 2012

It looks like he is stronger (due to a higher gravity on Earth) but the mechanics of gravity are those of Earth Tooo! Have you seen a man on the moon? Its not possible to be fast because it feels like youre in the water:) so its quite a load of B-shit

Just some different graphics to the same script told a hundred times before. There's nothing new here.

I'll watch it, even though it's made by Disney.
