The Hunger Games TV Spot

"Katniss Everdeen - the girl on fire!" It's almost time, only one week until The Hunger Games arrives in theaters. And let me be the first to tell you, it's awesome. It couldn't be more unlike Twilight, but it is a fantastic, dark, thrilling post-apocalyptic action movie that has the rumblings of something epic. To give you an idea of how epic this world is, and show you one last time why this movie is worth seeing, Lionsgate has unveiled one final 60-sec "Countdown Event" TV spot (via Facebook). By the end of this you should be as excited to see it as possible, and they barely show any of the actual Hunger Game either. Do not miss!

Watch new "Countdown Event" TV spot for Gary Ross' The Hunger Games, embedded from YouTube:

Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, one boy and one girl are chosen from each of Panem's 12 districts to fight each other to their death. Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta, the boy chosen from District 12 for the Hunger Games with Katniss.

The Hunger Games is both written and directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Gary Ross, director of Seabiscuit and Pleasantville previously, but also writer of Big, Mr. Baseball, Dave, Lassie, Pleasantville and Seabiscuit. It's adapted from Suzanne Collins' popular series of novels, first published in 2008. Lionsgate is bringing Hunger Games to theaters everywhere March 23rd, 2012. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Best trailer yet. I've been waiting for one of these spots to give me goose bumps... this one finally did.

Are there some really weird characters in this? It seems quite like the 5th Element looks wise in costume design sometimes, is it part of the marketing that they aren't showing how strange some folk are dressed? I quite like it, but I was just wondering.

People who live in the Capitol could be considered the rich, or well to do citizens. They wear garish clothing, and sport crazy hair styles while the rest of the populations throughout the districts are rather bland and unimpressive. Much like how Hollywood is today when compared to the rest of the nation.

I dunno, I always hit the shops in my Gucci leggings! I got that sort of vibe, just they haven't really shown it, I don't know much about the story so was just checking.

I'm wondering just how much they're going to use from the book, too. The Capitol people are all surgically altered and there's one woman who's dyed green - her whole body. So yeah, pretty wacky. But it seems like they've toned that down a bit for the movie. For instance, Katniss' hair and red dress for the interview are pretty normal. In the book, I think she had flaming patterns in her hair and a jewelled dress that looked like flames, too. 🙂
