Watch: First Full Trailer for Walter Salles' Adaptation of 'On the Road'
On Leap Day last month, we got a taste of the upcoming Jack Kerouac adaptation of On the Road, directed by Walter Salles, starring Sam Riley as Sal Paradise and Garrett Hedlund as Dean Moriarty. now the film's official Facebook page has debuted the first trailer for the film which also stars Kristen Stewart with supporting roles for Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Alice Braga, Elizabeth Moss. Adapting Kerouac into a feature film isn't easy, but the film seems to have captured at least some of the spirit of the iconic beatnik, kind of similar to Into the Wild with Emile Hirsch. Watch the trailer below!
Here's the first trailer for Walter Salles' On the Road adaptation via the film's Facebook page:
On the Road, directed by Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries, Dark Water), based on Jack Kerouac's book, tells the story of Sal Paradise (Riley), who sets off on a cross country journey expressing the restless energy and desire for freedom that makes people rush out to see the world. Hedlund plays Sal's friend Dean, who inspires him to see America, while Stewart plays his on-again-off-again wife Marylou. Viggo Mortensen also plays Old Bull Lee, a character loosely based on novelist William S. Burroughs, while Amy Adams plays Jane (an incarnation Joan Vollmer), the junkie mother of two kids, and Lee's wife. This was filmed last year and is looking for a US distributor. We expect this to premiere in Cannes, but no release info is available yet.

Holy shit I can't wait. This was the book that made me want to be a writer. I hope it translates well into film. Thus far, it looks promising.

i wont get my hopes up, dose not look that great and unless its like 3+ hours it will never do the book justice. and putting Stewart in this is a insult to the character Marylou.

wow! Whether you like it or not, Stewart is already Marylou (even though I'm not a fan of her) I think she will blow me here. It's better to reserve your judgment by the time you saw the film than commenting or complaining on the casting/film. For all I know, Salles is an excellent director.

This trailer looks amazing! Huge fan of the book and i agree with @guest, kristen stewart seems to embody Marylou's wild character dead on at first glance...will definately see this movie.

I can't wait to see this movie. I feel like if anyone should have the right to bring the novel to the screen, it should be Walter Salles. He did an amazing job with the Motorcycle Diaries, which has a similar tone and feel to On The Road. From what I can see, the casting seems pretty spot on as well.

Any who doubt Kirsten... seen The Runaways? If not, watch now, eat words later.

I think her fantastic performance in Into the Wild is going to resonate here as well...

Is it just me or does that guy look/sound like Bill Hader?

had great doubts about the attempt to make a film of this.....until seeing the trailer....I think they may have found it....really excited about seeing this now...looks like everyone in the trailer has captured their respective characters....if they dont screw too much with the story line this will be a huge hit...having grown up right on the tail end of the all the "beat madness" I have high expectations on this...
