Watch: Full Trailer for Oliver Stone's Drug Trafficking Thriller 'Savages'

April 5, 2012
Source: MTV

Earlier this week the first poster for the adaptation of Savages, Don Winslow's book of the same name, from director Oliver Stone (Wall Street, Platoon) showed up, and some keen readers noticed that it was kind of a rip-off of the poster for Babel from back in 2006. Well, the trailer for the film makes the film look like anything but a rip-off and just might mark the return of the edgy, quality filmmaking that Stone was known for decades ago. With a cast including Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and more, this should be quite the thriller.

Here's the first trailer for Oliver Stone's adaptation of Savages originally from MTV:

Oliver Stone directs Savages based on Don Winslow's book of the same name, with the screenplay co-written by the author and screenwriter Shane Salerno. The story follows two young, independent Laguna Beach marijuana kingpins (Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson) who are blackmailed into working for the Baja Cartel after their girlfriend Ophelia (Blake Lively) is kidnapped and held for a ransom of every last dollar they've made for the past five years. Benicio del Toro, Salma Hayek, John Travolta, Emile Hirsch and Uma Thurman also star in the film which is currently slated for theatrical release on July 6th. Interested?

Agreed.  Disappointed to say the least, but I guess we'll see.

Taylor Kitsch coming on strong this year.

HealthyPoison on Apr 5, 2012

What a stupid phony made up name. Even if it is his real name. It just sounds corny.

Phantom1991 on Jun 13, 2012

Looks like Stone got his balls back, but the wrong set ("U-Turn" balls).

Qrue3sixteen on Apr 5, 2012

I, personally, think it looks awesome.

Chazzy on Apr 5, 2012

Truong18 on Apr 5, 2012

Aaron Johnson, I've missed you!

SuicidalOptimist on Apr 5, 2012

Ive had a major boner for Salma for over 10 years so I have no choice but to watch this

Tester on Apr 5, 2012

with all due respect to your  boner, salma hayek can NOT act.......not a little bit. i actually laughed at her trying to sound menacing.

beevis on Apr 5, 2012

I was shocked at how bad her "acting" has gotten. Didn't know it was possible to get any worse.

Johnny Neat on Apr 6, 2012

i absolutely agree! she has never done anything that was any good at all; and, i didn't think she could get worse.....then i watch this trailer -and she's found a whole new level of awful. i really did laugh when she was saying her lines - just pitiful.

beevis on Apr 6, 2012

I want to see more from Aaron Johnson and then im sold.

Zade_92 on Apr 5, 2012

Stone's been off his game for a long, long time. That said, this seems ok?  But I'm not 100% sold. The trailer could be conveniently omitting a generous heaping of ham-fisted imagery, craptastic editing, lackluster story and horrendously obvious over-tones.....ugh, now that its spring in New York and all the street vendors are selling Bubble-Guns I get terrible flashbacks to Wall Street 2 and want to write off modern Stone movies for good.

Voice of Reason on Apr 5, 2012

Yup it's gonna be bad. The trailer already made it look cliche and unoriginal.

Moon on Apr 5, 2012

The trailer made it seem that way, but the book is anything but that. It's (the book) is actually pretty awesome. Not totally sold on this though...

Crapola on Apr 5, 2012

Yes, actually.

Aside from Del Toro, this looks horrifically miscast.

Pendy16 on Apr 5, 2012

 I'm so with you.

Johnny Neat on Apr 6, 2012

At what point do the two guys that are nailing the same girl kill each other? You know it's coming. That would bore me.

Sheldyn shipley on Jun 12, 2012

Rottweiler260 on Apr 5, 2012

I hate John Travoltas Face. It's just too big.

Crapola on Apr 5, 2012

that is what happened when you get old.

Truong18 on Apr 5, 2012

He's had things stuck onto though? And had bits melted to it and stuff? I think at one point he even had Nicolas Cage's face?

Crapola on Apr 5, 2012

It just looks bad....

Legandaryedition on Apr 5, 2012

Geoffrey Shauger on Apr 5, 2012

Taylor kitsch = Box office poison Stop casting this clown!

Bob Iger on Apr 5, 2012

Very true Bob, Battle Ship is gonna bomb then this guy is gonna be in some serious trouble!

Andrew on Apr 5, 2012

 go act...o wait

Adam Lubicz on Apr 6, 2012

Blake Lively's an actress, huh? I thought she was just some Paris Hilton type for the paparazzi. Seems like this movie needs a little more NBK vibe, but it could be passable.

norm on Apr 6, 2012

I feel bad for Del Toro. Why his agent conned him into such a movie is beyond me, but then again maybe he just wanted to be in a Stone movie.

Johnny Neat on Apr 6, 2012

 then again your a dumbass

Adam Lubicz on Apr 6, 2012

this loos great

Adam Lubicz on Apr 6, 2012

Adam Lubicz on Apr 6, 2012

Crazy Legs on Apr 6, 2012

So Selma is tryin to be the Godmother huh?laughable!

jah p on Apr 6, 2012

looks like a tony scott film

Killfoxx on Apr 6, 2012

I like the cast, decent enough plot I'd watch it but whats killing me is Selma's hair...whats with this hairstyle. Never seen anyone make this style look good. Not a fan of Blake lively, don't get me wrong I don't dislike her either I'm neutral-though after green lantern I'm questioning her acting abilities. but she looks the same everywhere I see her.

Barbara Ruiz on Apr 8, 2012

Why does this Michael Bay film have Oliver Stone's name on it?

Cgreene159 on Apr 9, 2012

Well at least I don't have to watch the movie now... thanks trailer!

Bibowski on Apr 11, 2012
