Lay the Favorite

This past summer, director Stephen Frears (High Fidelity, The Queen) saw his adaptation of Lay the Favorite hit theaters in the UK, but the film has yet to be released in the United States. Well, that changes this winter as the film will hit VOD on November 2nd and theaters on December 7th. Despite a great cast that includes Bruce Willis, Rebecca Hall, Catherine Zeta-Jones and more, the reviews that came out of Sundance this year were brutal. The film follows a young woman (Rebecca Hall) who gets involved with a group of geeky older men (including Bruce Willis) who know how to work the Las Vegas bookie system.

Here's the official US trailer for Stephen Frears' Lay the Favorite, from Radius TWC:

Beth Raymer (Rebecca Hall) is a beautiful girl with a big heart who leaves a Florida strip club to become a Las Vegas cocktail waitress. In walks Dink, a professional sports better who offers her a job placing wagers all over town to gain an advantage over the casinos. But then his gorgeous-but-frigid wife, Tulip (Catherine Zeta-Jones), gets jealous. Faced with no other choice but to fire Beth, Dink’s luck runs out when she heads to New York to work for a smarmy bookie, but ends up wrong side of the law. Stephen Frears directs Lay the Favorite written by D.V. DeVincentis, which hits VOD November 2nd and US theaters on December 7th.

It looks a lot better than the first trailer, which was apparently an April Fools Day prank. Except I didn't know it was an April Fools Day prank because I didn't see it until 3 months after April Fools Day. So I was very, very confused when I saw this new trailer today. Delighted, because it looks better, but still confused.

Whoops, I was talking about the Die Hard 5 trailer! I saw Bruce's mug and thought that's what this article was about.
