Total Recall

"Tell us your fantasy, we'll give you the memory." Whoa - must watch. As promised after that early tease, Columbia/Sony has unveiled the full-length trailer on Apple for Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake, starring Colin Farrell as Doug Quaid living in the future. The cast also includes Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, Ethan Hawke and John Cho with some bleached hair, and they all look considerably badass. I'm a sucker for cool sci-fi, and although I don't like Len Wiseman's movies (at all), this actually looks kind of awesome. Way better than I was initially expecting, at least. Dive in below!

Watch the first full-length trailer for Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake, in high def via Apple:

Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard), is directing this Total Recall remake from a script by James Vanderbilt, Kurt Wimmer & Mark Bomback that is said to be more true to Philip K. Dick's original short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale. The new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side. Bryan Cranston, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and John Cho also star in the film which is headed to theaters on August 3rd, 2012 towards the end of summer. Thoughts?

Yea, the movie studios don't like trailers on YouTube (which makes NO SENSE AT ALL) and so they go crazy removing them. You're forced to watch it on Apple right now, nothing we can do, they are hunting this one down like crazy.

Alex Billington on Apr 1, 2012

Maybe they try to keep track of the initial response and hits the trailer gets? I'm as unsure as you.

Crapola on Apr 1, 2012

Yea, they do, but... it would be even BIGGER if they just did a YouTube release and calculated those numbers. So they just want bigger numbers, yet won't allow anyone to watch the trailer? None of it makes any logical sense at all.

Alex Billington on Apr 1, 2012

It's the unwritten Apple law. Apple. Think different.* *(Just as long as different is exactly what we're thinking right now.)

Thexn on Apr 1, 2012

Its that whole war they're having with Adobe  Flash and we're the casualties.

iNDO on Apr 1, 2012

I watch stuff on Youtoob, but it has a lot of advertising. Since finding Firstshowing, I rarely watch a trailer on the Apple site, unless it's something you haven't featured. I find the quicktime movies very clunky and slow. Flash video is better for viewing online, though the quality is reduced. The hits and clicks is all people care about these days, advertising and being high in Googles. Sad world.

Crapola on Apr 2, 2012

ad blocker its your new best friend

Ram on Apr 4, 2012

That looked intense... can't wait.

Franklin Carpio on Apr 1, 2012

Very intense. That trailer got my blood pumping!

McWetty on Apr 1, 2012

Damn, now that is one remake I am interested in seeing now. Trailer looks epic. Def cannot wait to see this. I hope they will remake The Running Man next. I think that is another Arnold film that would do very well with a remake.

Dspot on Apr 1, 2012

Running Man is terrible, re-watch it, it's soooo bad.

Crapola on Apr 1, 2012

Hmmm...maybe if they do a remake, they could make it closer to the original story--but they would have to seriously re-work the ending.

Scopedog on Apr 1, 2012

The remake is done.. hunger games I think is called.

Aleoli on Apr 1, 2012

I keep hearing this over and over when I believe The Walk ( from the same book ) was actually closer to Hunger Games than the Running Man..  Now that The Mist was made into a fairly good movie, I would love to see The Walk get the same treatment, albeit with an R rating

Tester on Apr 2, 2012

I totally agree, that's what pissed me off the most about the movie, they changed the great ending of that short story..

Tester on Apr 2, 2012

It really is. Bought the dvd a couple years back. Hadn't seen it since I was a kid. Yeah, didn't transfer well. Still love it though.

good trailer.  long enough without leaving you feeling youve seen the whole film.

Ross on Apr 1, 2012

bole on Apr 1, 2012

Agreed.  The trailer certainly looks good; hope the complete film will be worth seeing.

Scopedog on Apr 1, 2012

Agree the trailer showed just enough to suck you into the overall feel of the movie and not spoil it. Especially if you've seen the original.  *************  ***Spoiler*** ************* I mean they haven't even shown Mars yet. Damn glad they decided to remake this. I hope they add more of the novel into the movie. There is a pretty cool back story to whole Mars, Sun, Earth thingie...

Shawn Rhodriquez on Apr 1, 2012

There is no mars in this version. Its an actual adaptation from Phillip K. Dick's We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.

Xerxexx on Apr 1, 2012

The book is set on Mars. Though this adaptation is much closer to the book from what details I have heard.

Gill on Apr 1, 2012

Mars is a memory in the novelette. Quaid wished to visit Mars.

Xerxexx on Apr 1, 2012

There is no Mars in this remake.....

John C. on Apr 16, 2012

Looks really great!

Andrea Dufresne on Apr 1, 2012

This Movie WILL ROCK Perfect Action Adventure Summer Movie

Sachin Dubey on Apr 1, 2012

The jury's still out about whether I will see this.  I'm more interested in catching up with the original (which has long been on my "to see" list)

Sean Kelly on Apr 1, 2012

Wait, is it still on Mars? Whys no eyes go pop!

Mithun Divakaran on Apr 1, 2012

Nope, no Mars in this version...

Scopedog on Apr 1, 2012

I disliked Len Wiseman. I dislike Kate Beckinsale. Then I saw this trailer. I like them now. That was fucking (I'm sorry for using the next word) EPIC!

Agent Kid Society on Apr 1, 2012

See?  All it took was one trailer! (But let's not count all the chickens yet.  While I did like the trailer, it will be watching the finished film that seals the deal for me.  But I _love_ Kate Beckinsale....)

Scopedog on Apr 1, 2012

I usually feel that way about every Len Wiseman movie, they look good at the start... but once you actually SEE the movie, you'll quickly be reminded how much you dislike that family (Len/Kate are married).

Alex Billington on Apr 1, 2012

I know, but we can only hope...

Agent Kid Society on Apr 2, 2012

I hate apple trailers on a PC they never work well, and this trailer looks so good.

Zade_92 on Apr 1, 2012

Ha ha ... noticed one line in the trailer that was a nice tip of the hat to the Arnie version. ¬†1000 cool points to whoever else can recognize it. ¬†ūüôā

Edward Curtis on Apr 1, 2012

If I'm not me, then who am I?......Correct?

Chris Giebler on Apr 1, 2012

Edward Curtis on Apr 1, 2012

Holy shit. That's a good trailer. Not talking about the movie yet. Might be good.

Paulo Gabriel on Apr 1, 2012

Wow.  The design of the city really looks nice.  We haven't seen a good seedy future city done well since Blade Runner.  It also brings to mind the early William Gibson novels.  I wonder if Mars will be in this version at all.

greedo on Apr 1, 2012

Really Awesome, absolutely badass trailer...cant wait...

Wylles on Apr 1, 2012

I'm in. I love the tracking shot with him taking out the guards.

Chris Amaya on Apr 1, 2012

You. Are. Shitting. Me. I'm there with bells on...Actually scratch that. Bells in a movie theater would be rude.

Quanah on Apr 1, 2012

That was fucking awesome. Farrell has gotten so much better as an actor and this looks like a badass sci-fi flick.

Xerxexx on Apr 1, 2012

Agreed. Although I think Farrell has always been great actor. He's just picked some terrible films to be in. I loved Farrell in Minority Report. After that his films ranged between terrible, to iffy, to brilliant. I hope he keeps this mainstream kick going. ūüôā

Quanah on Apr 1, 2012

I totally agree. Farrell is a talented actor and he looks great in this.

Xerxexx on Apr 1, 2012

 Agreed x2.. In Bruges anyone?

syntaxterror on Apr 1, 2012

Ha! In Bruges is the film that completely changed my opinion of him. LOVED that movie!!

grimjob on Apr 1, 2012

 IB is his best work.

Xerxexx on Apr 2, 2012

"And you like Melina, right? Well you get to fuck her every night. That's right, she's gonna be Hauser's babe." -- Will this remake have classic dialogue like that?

Home in time for cornflakes on Apr 1, 2012

I hope so, but doubtful. The original was actually a pretty good film.

Chjapa on Apr 1, 2012

Correction: Pretty great film.

grimjob on Apr 1, 2012

this looks sick, yes. just kind of weird they show john cho getting killed right at the beginning. but ahhh yeah, i'm seeing it.

Race Bannon on Apr 1, 2012

That was better than I thought it would be to be honest ūüėģ I can see myself waiting in line for this. ūüėÄ

LosZombies on Apr 1, 2012

I saw no indication that I'm gonna get to see three boobs in this film.

Robertschultz78 on Apr 1, 2012

I was just going to bring that up. Benny and the tri-tit hooker is classic!

grimjob on Apr 1, 2012

shit.... that looked pretty awesome

DoomCanoe on Apr 1, 2012

I really hate to say it, but that looks pretty damn awesome. I was so pissed when I heard this was happening. Sticking to the source material was the right way to go. The original is one of my faves, and this looks to be removed far enough from that to make me want to see it.

grimjob on Apr 1, 2012

likewise. i wanted nothing to do with this when i heard about it, but at least they *appear* to be trying to do something different. i share @buddha1822:disqus's opinion of Wiseman, but like @9521adc5b43398fd637a2b6efe24a1c1:disqus, the tracking shot and one or two other little things got my attention. add in Farrell (ever since In Bruges, likewise @1ba43be8ed9a2251645286d50036577e:disqus!) and the Minority Report / Fifth Element design, and you can colour me surprisingly interested. i hope i enjoy the ride.

son_et_lumiere on Apr 2, 2012

Since there is no Mars does that mean I won't get to see Krang?

Midnight premiere showing for me, very excited for this film, that traileri is amazing!

Rick4925872 on Apr 2, 2012

Watched the original film as a kid but unfortunately don't remember it much. I like the style of this one's setting. Anyone getting tired of the "oh I got skills" context? Colin Farrell doesn't do too well carrying a film in terms of box office but this looks like it will be a solid late summer action movie.

Marc Callado on Apr 2, 2012

WTF is wrong with everyone? This trailer looks awful, all of Wiseman's movies are awful. He cast his wife in it, dammit. This is movie should have been named a different title. I hope this whole damn beautiful people in total recall remake is an April fools joke on me.

 Can't wait!

Bl00dwerK on Apr 2, 2012

Arnold WHO?  I must say that I will certainly miss the melted dwarf with the three tits, but Kate B. definitely takes the sting out of that! Can't stand Colin Farrell in anything, but again, Kate! Freaking! Beckinsale!

Sharkman on Apr 2, 2012

Eye-popping stuff man

HarryFiddleSticks on Apr 2, 2012

This looks pretty awesome, actually...  I guess only time will tell though...

Jason on Apr 2, 2012

Jason Bourne set in the future? I like how it looks it definitely has that Blade Runner tone to it I'll definitely watch it but I'm not expecting much from it.

Jont on Apr 2, 2012

he's almost as bad as Paul WS Anderson / Milla Jovovich. once every now and then, sure, but every damn movie?

son_et_lumiere on Apr 2, 2012

Luckily Guy Ritchie only made that mistake once.

grimjob on Apr 2, 2012

Man the camera work during the shootout where he comes out of the chair was superb.

Rain Spider on Apr 2, 2012

This entire article and loads of comments, and not a single person has mentioned Paul Verhoeven? It was the impact of Paul Verhoeven's cartoonish, grotesque, hyper-violent style that implanted us with all the Total Recall film memories we know and love. I agree this new film doesn't look bad, but it also looks a bit like your average, modern, run of the mill sci-fi actioner. Slow mo fight scenes and CGI cities just don't impress me anymore. I'll watch it, but dare I say I doubt I'll be talking about it in 2034 (like we're talking about the 1990 version now). Unless Len Wiseman suddenly turns into more of a modern auteur like Paul Verhoeven or Luc Besson, with a creative and memorable style, I think this film will likely be a fun diversion but ultimately as forgettable as the Underworld films or other OK futureworld flicks like, say "I, Robot". I could be wrong of course, but much like Paul WS Anderson, Wiseman has never given us much reason to think differently. (And I don't hate the Underworld films either).

tsode on Apr 2, 2012

John on Apr 3, 2012

well said. Total Recall (the Ahnuld version) is, along with RoboCop and Starship Troopers, a trilogy of genuinely subversive, schlock blockbusters, all with a garish, in your face, unapologetic style. you may like or hate Verhoeven, but you sure as hell will have an opinion. I, Robot is a good example of a film that you watch and then it just dissipates in the memory. here's hoping Wiseman manages to avoid that fate here.

son_et_lumiere on Apr 3, 2012

KUATO 2012.

@tsode beautifully said.

Keith on Apr 2, 2012

Keep Kate & Jessica give them a full lesbian scene! Ditch the rest!

Jimmy Love on Apr 2, 2012

This could be done well, but unfortunately Len Wiseman has made only average to crap movies. The source material is solid; the 1990 version was a blast; this version has some great visuals from the trailer and Colin Farrell doesn't suck in roles. I'm open-minded about this rehash, but if the script is a dud nothing can save this movie.

Home in time for cornflakes on Apr 3, 2012

I thought they learned from Matrix that CG fight scenes are not executed well. Had to turn it off half way through.

AINYC Film on Apr 3, 2012

I'm willing to give Wiseman the benefit of the doubt for this one. I think the trailer actually looks pretty good, and Farrell's always watchable.

Being from the generation of the original (Which was fun to watch) this looks freak'in incredible. I really like Colin Farrell for some reason but he sure has picked some sad movies to be associated with in the past. This looks much better .... hope the whole movie is as good as the trailer looks. Kate B on the other hand........HOT is the only description the fits. That is a sexy woman for sure. Include her and Jessica B. in slugfest style dude fight....I'm freak'in there.

Bithki on Apr 16, 2012

Eh!  I don't find the trailer that memorable or exciting.  The Swarzenneger film was more than enough for this story.   I am really sick of remakes!  They throw in a few "A" lister babes, a bunch of computer animation and suddenly everyone thinks this movie is awe inspiring?  Boy how low our ideals have fallen.  The movie isn't that special or interesting enough for me to blow $12.00 on a ticket.  I will wait for the DVD.

Rockenfive on Apr 17, 2012

Everybody seems to have forgotten this is directed by Len Wiseman. He's generally known for being just a couple of notches better than Uwe Boll. Expect more crap soon.

Jack le Critic on Apr 23, 2012

Yes! Give most of the cool shots away!

ur_babys_daddy on Apr 26, 2012

Arnold needs to be in it for it to be good.. Colin Ferrell blows my left testicle

I late to the game, but now I'm freaking interested. The original will always have a spot in my heart but this might just work.
