Fat Kid Rules the World

After making a bit of a comeback with a supporting role in The Descendants, actor Matthew Lillard (Scream), is now putting on a different hat by making his directorial debut with an indie called Fat Kid Rules the World, based on K.L. Going's novel of the same name, starring Jacob Wysocki from the Sundance selected film Terri with John C. Reilly. The film will have its premiere at SXSW tonight (stay tuned for Jeremy's coverage through the next week) and now THR has debuted the red band trailer. It looks like a fantastic coming-of-age film allowing both Wysocki and Lillard to break out even further. Watch it!

Here's the red band trailer for Matthew Lillard's Fat Kid Rules the World from THR:

Fat Kid Rules the World marks the feature directorial debut of actor Matthew Lillard (The Descendants, Scream) and was written by Michael M.B. Glavin and Peter Speakman. Jacob Wysocki plays Troy Billings who is seventeen, overweight, and suicidal. Just as he’s about to jump in front of a bus, he’s saved by Marcus, a charming high school dropout/street musician. The two begin an uneasy friendship when Marcus enlists the musically challenged Troy to become the drummer in a new punk rock band and has his eyes opened to music, life and much more. The film hits SXSW 2012 tonight, but has no official release date yet.

... Matthew Lillard trying to bring back a little SLC Punk? I'm ok with that. This looks fun. ...

"Don't fuck with the fat kid!" Love it. And the nobody wants to see a fat kid playing the drums part. Epic.

Looks pretty good. And I couldn't help but think the fat kid should have been wearing a Big Fun t-shirt when he stepped in front of that bus.

Interesting story. Cameo by the director, nice. Hopefully it does get an official release date. A story like this with good hearted substance and character should be out there.

Wow....what the point in watching the movie if they going to give everything away in the trailer.
