"I am Merida, and I'll be shooting for my own hand!" Disney has revealed the second full theatrical trailer for Pixar's Brave via Apple, and it's actually a condensed scene from the movie of an archery competition for Princess Merida's hand in marriage. Disney is being sneaky by building hype but without revealing any more that we haven't seen before. I actually watched this entire clip at D23 last year, and we've seen plenty of real footage in the trailers, so they're still hiding all of the third act and where this story ends up. But nonetheless, this looks great, it's a fantastic trailer - I just wish it was our first teaser, not the third. Enjoy!
Watch the second official trailer for Pixar's Brave, embedded via YouTube in high def on Apple:
Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Pixar's Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.
Brave was originally being directed by Pixar's first female director, Brenda Chapman (of Prince of Egypt), but she was then joined by Mark Andrews (of the short One Man Band) who took over to help finish the movie. Disney has scheduled Pixar's Brave for release this summer starting June 22nd in 3D. Can't wait?

Still have a problem with the title, but it does look good I think, for kids like. I suppose people associate Scotland with Braveheart, so 'Brave' makes sense, they should have called it 'Freeeeeeeeedddoooooooooooooom' that's a lot more empowering. Anyway, Mel Gibson is a geniaz.

Is this Pixar or Dreamworks? Feels and looks like a Dreamworks film.

This feels a bit... I dunno... formulaic? Sure, I get it, have a strong female protagonist. But Disney/Pixar almost always has this kind of feisty female character and it feels a bit old. If I have to be honest, I'd say Merida irritates me a little. Surely honoring tradition is also a good value? Maybe it's too early to judge, but I feel like this lead character is going to annoy me.

Well so far every time a film with a female lead they always consider the character irritating...nearly constantly. Values? I mean whoever lands the target gets to marry her? I'd go against tradition as well.

At 1:23, she says "I'll be shitting from my own hands"lol!!!, this looks okay but not as good as How to train your dragon IMO....

If I may be so bold. Every Pixar film has that little flair that makes it a Pixar film. That really makes it stand out from the pack. I'm trying to find that in this trailer. Again, I'm only viewing it from the trailer. Maybe Pixar is focusing on character rending, camera angles...seeing where there programs can go that haven't been touched by other studios. Or maybe they just wanted to make a straight foward kid story and throw everyone a curve. Either way, it will be enjoyed by my kids. Over and Over...and Over again.

It looks like Pixar has mastered the look of human hair in this clip. The human motion is also much more fluid than in the past.

That...just gave me chills.

Agreed. This definitely has piqued my interest. I despise the day that trailers turned into an opportunity to analyze every detail of a film before it has even been fully released instead of just being that first or second glimpse into what is in store.

I was on the fence before. This absolutely makes me want to see this now. Also, was that the episode-closing sound from LOST at the end?

I love Pixar, but honestly I would have to agree that this is a little formulaic. Or the main character is just weak in her design. This is a teenage princess that looks like almost every other princess made by Disney that doesn't like following rules and being a princess. The title is 'Brave' and the main character is a doll-faced, puppy-eyed girl with as much hair as the girl from 'Tangled'. Having said that though, I'll still see it and hope for the best!
