"Ten seconds ’till you go supersonic!" Another awesome bit of sci-fi to check out today, in the form of a new short film made by brothers Christopher Desantis and Greg Desantis. It's called Shogun Tango and is a futuristic sci-fi racing short (first found via io9), involving a number of sleek ships and spacecraft. Greg Desantis explains: "We made the movie in our spare time over about a year. A few people have asked if it is a viral for Virgin, it's not. We just thought the film would be cooler with real logos, than with fake or generic logos." It reminds me of the anime Redline, but if it were live-action-ish. Check it out - it's only 2 minutes!
Love this opening description (via Vimeo): "Every December 25th a land race is held in New Bonneville California. Only the fastest and most powerful vehicles can handle the grueling conditions. The official race title is, The Bonneville Classic 5000. But the world has come to know it as The Shogun Tango." The short was created and directed by Christopher Desantis (website), an up-and-coming filmmaker, with design and art direction by his brother Greg Desantis. The cast includes Bola Ariwoola, Ben Davies and Mice Rivello. This could be a cool feature. For info, visit the shoguntango.com website. Pretty damn cool?

Great visuals but the acting could have been better. The writing was pretty good, but a bit more character to the line delivery would have made the protagonist much more engaging. Cool showcase of their CG and shot design skills though, so nice work.

I'm sure this would make a great side plot / action scene in a scifi movie, but on its own? Nope. And if that truck was knocked over from the racers, how the f was that guy not liquified?!?

I think there's a very specific demographic to which this short was mind blowing. Namely, those of us who had this music playing in their head throughout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFw6djJtiPA

Bad acting and a huge Virgin billboard. Also, you don't need to be *in* a satellite to *use* a satellite. Also, Virgin would never sponsor an event where the finish line means certain death for the guy who doesn't make it through the gate.

Reminded me of the game Wip3out, which had much better decals/logos designed by the Designers Republic. Sleeker, shinier, but Trickie Dickie Branson needs no more advertising. I attached a link to the gameplay from 2000. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOYY7w5VUN0
