Watch: Sleepy Skunk's 'Movies That Come to the Rescue' Mashup
by Alex Billington
May 2, 2012
"Shut up, crime!" Similar to those fantastic year-end cinematic recaps, our friends at an upstart film website named The Sleepy Skunk have put together an awesome mashup video called: Movies That Come to the Rescue. This nearly five-minute YouTube mashup features footage from every last superhero, super-anything, comic book-everything from Blade to every Batman to Watchmen to Spidey to TMNT to Kick-Ass to Ultraman to The Shadow and The Incredibles. With Marvel's The Avengers finally released to everyone in the world this week, it's a perfect salute to the excitement and emotion of all superheroes big and small.
The guys over at Sleepy Skunk have been whipping up mashups for a little while, but this is one of their best yet. Its gone viral as well, showing up on a lot of blogs, including even Gizmodo and indieWire. The music he used was Perfect Situation by Weezer. You can also find a full rundown of every piece of footage, with time breakdowns, on their YouTube page. Some of my all-time favorite superhero movies include Spider-Man 2, X-Men 2, The Dark Knight and The Incredibles. It also reminds me of the potential of so many movies, like Silver Surfer, how great a character he is but totally mishandled. They can only get better! Your favorites?

Eh, not bad...didn't really have too much of an effect on me...reminded me of all the superhero failures out there. Which for some odd reason, its made me criticize Nolan's Batman films...the characterization of Bruce Wayne is somewhat non-existent. Sure we got his motivation to done the cowl of Bats...but that was it...nothing more. Parents murdered, city in ruin, people afraid for their lives are great reasons to become the savoir...but we haven't seen the toll its taken on Wayne himself...this has always been my biggest complaints about the Batman films, they never explore Bruce Wayne after the persona of Batman...the only one that has ever touched on it was the Val Kilmer Bats film. I know its off topic but this mash up inspired me to bitch.

I don't wanna be negative...the video was good it just kinda let me down when so many sub-par hero movies made it in there...My Super Ex Girlfriend, Fantastic Four, Dare Devil, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Spirit, Elektra, X-Men 3, The Punisher (Thomas Jane was good), The Green Lantern, Spiderman 3, etc are just so bad it really brings the mood down. Then that brought up the Batman complaint...ugh.

if only the great ones made the cut, it would be a 30 second video

Nolan has one more batman film to release so you can't really criticize until you see his final story besides the last batman story takes place 8 years later so that's enough time to see how much of toll it has taken on Bruce Wayne and I'm sure he'll make room for that in the film but the two other films Bruce started taking on the Batman so there wasn't time for him to explore his feelings since there was so much clean up he had to do within a year.

You are probably right, its just character development is extremely important...Johnathan/Chris Nolan may have saved the best for last. Fingers crossed.

I meant to add more but got excited and hit "post." I am more than willing to give it a chance, Nolan may surprise.

The best one is Condorman. Why would you ever criticize Nolan's Batman, which other Batman is better than Nolan's. And why criticize superhero movies from this mashup, just enjoy it for what it is, entertainment.

Nolan's Batman films are good but they are not as amazing as everyone says they are...my opinion by the way. There hasn't been character development...and that is an important aspect to any medium.

I agree with you. Also, even if is a good cinematographer, in Nolan´s films, Batman is the less interesting character. In the last one, The joker overshadow the hero to a point that Batman seemed to be a secondary character (and bad developed)

Therein lies my biggest complaint, The Joker was fully developed and Bats fell to a backdrop character...behind Joker, Dent, Gordon and Fox.

I like Weezer and all, but I was wishing through the whole video that it would've been a more impactful track.

Couldn't agree more. Choice of music was an epic fail, couldn't get into the video at all because of it. Had to turn it off after about 2 minutes. The megaman music at the end was cool, though.

There's a commenter on YouTube who suggested to mute the sound and play Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding out for a Hero' instead. Just tried it and it's a epic as f*ck. (ala Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon over Wizard of Oz)
