Watch: Steven Spielberg Cameos in SNL's 'Laser Cats 7' Digital Short

There are two things that everyone loves: cats and lasers! And, uh, Steven Spielberg! Everyone loves him, too! Right?! I personally don't watch SNL anymore, but Deadline has pointed out the new SNL Digital Short, likely really directed by Akiva Schaffer, that debuted on last night's show (hosted by Josh Brolin, who also did a boring Men in Black 3 sketch). It's for the seventh iteration of their infamous Laser Cats! movies, which first premiered back in 2006, and this time Spielberg shows up to actually direct their pitch for Lorne Michaels. It's packed with cheesy Spielberg movie references galore and tons more cat-insanity.
As this is an NBC video, it's only available on NBC.com and Hulu at the moment. I didn't think this was that funny, but Deadline's Nikki Finke really tore it a new one, stating, "[Steven] cameos once, twice, many times in this SNL Digital Short that truly sucks" after blatantly asking in her headline: "How Desperate Is Steven Spielberg?" Looks like he was having fun. Though the exorbitant amount of forced Spielberg references does seem suspicious, especially timed with the Jaws Blu-Ray announcement, a Universal movie, all part of the same company as NBC. Either way, it's fun to see Spielberg in a SNL short for once, despite how bad it was.
That was awesome. I'm so happy to be alive in the era when Spielberg was alive.

Why doesn't SNL just get it over with and hire Tim & Eric? These flailing attempts at their humor are painful to watch.

T&E are too good for the dullness of SNL...T&E did parody SNL in one of their shows once, they did an opening credit sequence with the two of them aping for the camera in endless different situations like getting out of taxi and stuff. Two very funny guys that fly way under the radar...

I have one offer! I love Spielberg, love him very very much, I know most of people love him too, but I Wana say I wish he establish institute of film making and directing because I think old director is very better than our time young director, I really wish he open movie school or university and teach the young talented guys! If his teaching be on the scene and be practical became far far better! If he gone from us who can be like him? Long long long long long live great spielberg
