Phantom Trailer

"You understand this is completely classified?" Yep, it's Ed Harris & David Duchovny I'm talking about. Both of them in a Cold War submarine thriller called Phantom? Ohh yes. Wait, that's not all. The cast in this, beyond Harris and Duchovny, also includes some other fantastic actors: William Fitchtner, Sean Patrick Flanery, Johnathon Schaech and Lance Henriksen. Harris plays the captain of a Cold War Soviet missile submarine who has secretly been suffering from seizures that alter his perception of reality. There's some odd supernatural-y twists, but otherwise this just looks like another solid submarine thriller.

Watch the first official trailer for Todd Robinson's Phantom, originally in high def from Apple:

The Captain of a Soviet submarine holds the fate of the world in his hands. On a seemingly haunted vessel, with a rogue element on board, Captain Demi (Ed Harris) is forced to face his past in order to find redemption in the present. But, in the depths of the South Pacific, man and machine are not alone. Phantom was both written & directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Todd Robinson, of a few docs previously like Wild Bill: Hollywood Maverick and Amargosa, as well as the crime film Lonely Hearts previously. RCR Distribution is releasing Phantom in theaters on March 1st, 2013 in spring. For more, visit their website.

That looks amazing, I love the cast and the concept is great. What supernatural elements are you talking about? Seems to me like they're carrying some kind of weapon of mass destruction.

Yea, the phantom device, or something. I'm also referring to when we originally posted about this last year, it was actually described as a "supernatural submarine" movie. Read that original post here: The original description included the line "man and machine are not alone" and a tagline stating "Something is Down There". Very interesting, I think they're covering up more of the supernatural aspect in this trailer, but I still want to see it.

Thanks for elaborating, it definitely makes sense now. I agree that the supernatural element seems unnecessary, but I'll hold off on judgement til after I see if it works in the film.

great cast and the movie looks very intense - can't wait to find out what else is down there with them.

beevis on Dec 24, 2012

What happened to the comment about your mother being down there with them? Did that give the plot away?

David Banner on Dec 24, 2012

Yes it did. Shhhh! That's a spoiler... More than "man and machine" - your parents! Ahhh!

Alex Billington on Dec 24, 2012

Alex, can you fix the quote? It's "completely", not "complete". Not trying to be a grammar nazi, I just have OCD 😉

Elbak on Dec 24, 2012

Woops! Just fixed the quote, thanks.

Alex Billington on Dec 24, 2012

David Duchovny knows how to be a villain. I'm in.

Reznik on Dec 24, 2012

So where's Scully ?

This looks like some serious over dramatic awfulness.

Brian Ricci Movie Review on Dec 24, 2012

It's a movie. What do you expect ? It has to be cheesy by default.

Brian Ricci Movie Review on Feb 27, 2013

Looks great because I love Duchovney. Why is ed Harris ALWAYS in an underwater film? Haha.

zakkforchilli on Dec 24, 2012

Did you see the one where he is in the Gobi desert for the most of the movie ?

ablargh blah on Dec 24, 2012

Haha nope!

zakkforchilli on Dec 25, 2012

The Way Back from 2010 with Colin Farrell,Mark Strong,Saoirse Ronan and Jim Sturgess based on true events about an escape from Russian gulag.

Somehow, this reminds me of an X-Files episode. With Mulder, not Scully and a submarine, secret misson and "something down there"....gotta go pull out the X-Files box set and check 😉

David Banner on Dec 24, 2012

Some really good Russian accents there.

Carpola on Dec 24, 2012

Oh that old gag.I prefer it this way.If english is meant to be russian in this movie, why would they have accents ? If they are meant to be russian, why would they have "foreign" accents ? Also when the Blue Ray is out you can always watch it in russian dub with english subtitles .

ablargh blah on Dec 24, 2012

I'd prefer it if they put on fake Russian accents really bad style. There was a period where people did do comedy accents though right? It makes total sense not to do it, I think I'm just insane.

Carpola on Dec 25, 2012

I am looking forward to seeing this film because I do like David Duchovny. He is such a brilliant actor. And as a villain...I am so in.

Roger on Dec 25, 2012

Great actors but Visual effects are weak and amateur ,purchased from videocopilot?!!!!

Bob on Dec 25, 2012

If the choice is between good actors vs good visual effects I will take good actors any time.

Rob on Dec 25, 2012

I'm agree but good visual will boost performance of actors in photo real vfx

Bob on Dec 25, 2012

The trailer brought back memories of 'Crimson Tide' for me. And it gave too much away. Still looking forward to it though!

Mithun Divakaran on Dec 25, 2012

Great actors but I don't like this kind of movies.
