84th Academy Awards Trailer

"They've been charged with tracking down a legend…" And here we go. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences teamed up with Funny or Die to create this trailer for the 84th Academy Awards, coming up this February. The trailer, which is even playing in theaters (my goodness), features Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox, of all people, on a worldwide hunt for Oscar host Billy Crystal. It's funny and has some good moments, but was not what I was expecting for an "Oscar trailer" - but maybe that's just me. The Oscar show is on February 26th, but we've still got the nominations coming January 24th. Check out the trailer!

The official trailer of the 84th Academy Awards from YouTube (via Deadline). Watch the ceremony live on ABC on Sunday, February 26th. The 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012. We also featured the official Oscar poster recently, celebrating a look back at some classic Best Picture winners. I was hoping we'd see a similar look back in this trailer, but they went for the hard sell with Duhamel & Fox, classy. Award season continues to rage on in 2012, which means there's lots of exciting stuff like this to cover, so stay tuned for more Academy Awards updates. Celebrate the Movies!

Yo, Alex. You hear about the AKIRA production being halted?

Big Boss on Jan 5, 2012

Yes I did, but details on it are rather sketchy... waiting for actual confirmation or anything, but for now I'm expecting them to keep working on the budget and get things moving again. But let's stay on topic - Akira ain't going to win any Oscars!

Alex Billington on Jan 5, 2012

Agreed. And if it did, I'd have a heart attack.

Big Boss on Jan 5, 2012

Sure it will, for special effects-if not, they f'd it up 🙂

David Banner on Jan 6, 2012

Nah it'll go to Sin City 2!

maybe he got an exclusive from WB and is preparing a big article

Cute. "I have big hopes for you (Billy Crystal)."

Nothin' like the old reliable, which is what I use to call Trojans until I had my first 2 kids.

Quanah on Jan 5, 2012

Should've been the Muppets...

BSL on Jan 5, 2012

I didn't watch this, could someone please tell me if he finds Curly's gold?

Lebowski on Jan 5, 2012

This looks so embarrassing, it’s the perfect fit for the academy awards.

They finally realize they're a joke and don't hide it anymore...

awful - and where have all the writers gone!

Dom on Jan 6, 2012

Ah, it was "typical Oscar's", funny enough. But on a side note, what's up with the audio mix? I had to check that the error was not on my side, all the dialogue was in the right speaker(and only effect sounds in the left)? Guess they had to save some $$ somewhere.

David Banner on Jan 6, 2012

This makes me so happy 😀 I want to give Crystal the biggest high five.

Humor was ok, mild and a little cheesy as the Academy awards often are.  I can't help but wonder though, if they're still turning to Billy this far, what will they do when he's at an age that he's not physically up for it or that (hopefully far off) time that he passes?  They need to rework things bad if they want the ceremony to keep being televised.  Personally I only tend to care about a few awards each year, so far this year best actor is the only award I'm really looking for a specific out come that I'd like, so I could do without the whole show until the last 30 minutes or so. Billy is great, and although it was embarrassing watching Anne and James (James mostly), I did think it was a good choice to attempt more current and younger talent.  Some day that's all they'll be able to work with and none of them will be up for the task.

I like Billy Crystal, but geez. I guess he's trying to break Guinness World Records for hosting Oscars. Too bad Murphy couldn't do it. Need someone more lively than Billy.

Is he dressed as the Dungeon Master there? It's funny for such a giant pool of supposed talent, the Oscars sucks so much balls.

Crapola on Jan 8, 2012

I'm surprised they gave that dead-eyed doll Megan Fox any words to say. The Oscars are just embarrassing.

Max Renn on Jan 10, 2012

Is it just me or are the Oscars looking dull and boring this year... Nothing exciting or interesting or fun or worthwhile. I won't bother watching it.

Is that Robin Williams who says he turned into a yeti?
