Some prime stop-motion animation work has come from Laika studios in the form of Coraline and their forthcoming venture ParaNorman. Now the studio has teamed with director Wes Anderson, who made quite a splash in stop-motion with Fantastic Mr. Fox, for one of the best and most charming smartphone commercials I've ever seen. Normally commercials from big time directors don't interest us, but this is a great blend of talents, and combines the imagination of a child with the minds of fantastic filmmakers to create a lovely commercial for Sony's Xperia phone. We're not getting paid for this, it's just superb work.
Watch Wes Anderson and Laika's Sony Xperia commercial here, found via Movies.com:
The coolest aspect of this commercial is they took something a real 8-year old boy named Jake who came up with this strange concept in his head, and took six weeks to animate it and bring it to life. Maybe we should just let kids come up with the concept for all our commercials. They'd likely be much more entertaining that 90% of the ads out there. To hear Jake's full description of his idea, watch the whole video here. Cool, eh?

WTF! I did this like 2 years ago! it made it for a competition for At&T. same concept. took a Friends kid and started asking questions about how he sees technology. and then animated what he said: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VHoRu4mSP4&list=UUYUz3gR3A9OSOUUW0JXwDRg&index=16&feature=plcp what do you guys think?

If I didnt know this was Wes Anderson before hand I probably wouldnt have guessed he was behind this. Which is really exciting for me, as a fan of his, because as much as I love his work it is a tad bit stagnant. Hopefully he continues to change his up a bit.
