Wet Hot American Summer

Last summer we got the potentially exciting news that a follow-up to the 2001 Sundance selected comedy Wet Hot American Summer just might be happening. Though the chances were slim, director David Wain said that it was being developed. Now it sounds like dreams are coming true as Wain's longtime friend and comedic collaborator Michael Showalter stopped by the Bravo talk show "Watch What Happens Live" (via HuffPo) and when asked whether the sequel would be happening, he simply said, "Absolutely yes. 100% yes. The whole gang. Everyone's back. We're doing it." That's the best news I've heard this year.

I'm hoping that Wain touting that, "Everyone's back," doesn't just mean most of the cast. After all, some of the original film's stars like Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks have gone on to become quite the sought after talents. However, I'm betting they're dying to get back to a project like this, especially once that helped launch their careers. In addition to their return, that would mean Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Ian Black, A.D. Miles, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Zak Orth, Margurerite Moreau, Judah Friedlander and Showalter himself will return as well. The question is whether this will be the prequel that Wain previously talked about or a genuine sequel. Stay tuned!

This makes me so happy!  I remember my friend (that I showed the movie to a little less than a year ago) telling me that he heard this was getting a sequel and I responded "What? Why? That would be amazing, but that's why I doubt it would really happen."  Then I thought about how terribly wrong and how terrible great this could be.  Please be the latter.
