Whoa! Seth MacFarlane Announced as 85th Academy Awards Host

After going old school didn't work out immensely well with Billy Crystal last year as host of the Academy Awards, the annual telecast of Hollywood's biggest night is going contemporary and even a little edgy. ABC has just announced that "Family Guy" creator and Ted writer, director and star Seth MacFarlane will host the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 24th, 2013. MacFarlane is also fresh off another landmark hosting gig as he recently served as host of "Saturday Night Live" for the season premiere. MacFarlane commented, "It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars." More below!
MacFarlane continued, "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen roast.” Here's hoping MacFarlane brings some more risky material along the lines of Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes. Hopefully there will be at least one funny musical number, something that fans of "Family Guy" know MacFarlane can do well. There's a good chance the animated Griffin family could appear, and maybe even Ted can make an appearance. MacFarlane is a solid choice to host the generally boring awards night, and he'll hopefully make it a little more fun this year.

No,No,Hell No,Double No,Triple No,No to da N O! Are you kidding me is the Academy Awards run by monkeys now or some shit. You have way more qualified actors or directors waiting for a chance to host and this is the best shit they came up with?! As much as the guy contributed in the past years he's been on a steady downfall no doubt about that and this kind of role for him is outrageous.

Good acting does not equate to good hosting. You can see how awkward some of them are when reading the teleprompter just to give out a single award. You don't want a whole show with someone who has never hosted a live broadcast awards show before. Robert Downey Jr. is the only name on this list I can see being funny, engaging and charismatic throughout the whole show. It also helps when the host has comedy writing background.

now that you have covered the list of people who have expressed not wanting to be the host, who would you recommend.. and while your at it, provide proof that Seth has been in a steady downfall...despite the awards for Ted and the newest season for Family Guy and American Dad....

Renner as a host of, well anyting really? Seriously? That's just rediculous, the Oscars are boring enough already. I really liked the spectacle of Jackmans gig, and I think Neil Patrick Harris does a fantastic Job, every time he gets to host anything. So give that guy a shot, who cares if he's more of a TV personality and not really associated with the movie industry.

"You have way more qualified actors or directors waiting for a chance to host" Really? Who? A job that is 100% thankless, where the best you can do in critics POV is "not terrible". I have't heard any actors asking to host after the Franco/Hathaway disaster.

He was scheduled to perform Sinatra songs with the NSO at the Kennedy Center. I'd provide a link but it seems they're having issues at the moment. See the note near the bottom of the site. http://www.kennedy-center.org/events/?event=NNPSB

I love Seth but I am afraid he won't be able to joke as much as he would love to as these are not Globes....not sure where they are going with this...

As much as I dislike that guy's shows, he showed confidence during his gig as Roastmaster for Charlie Sheen (although I heard he bombed at the Emmys). If he can keep his giant ego in check and avoid dick and fart jokes, I can see him as Oscar host.
