The voice cast of Warner Bros. animated LEGO: Piece of Resistance (though that might not be the final title) just keeps getting better. Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt are all lending their voices to the 3D film from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Now Deadline has word that Will Ferrell and Nick Offerman (who co-starred in Casa de Mi Padre) will bring some funny, and Liam Neeson will offer his gruff voice to the film as well. So just who will these guys be playing in the animated film slated for release in 2014? Read on!
For those just joining us, the film follows Emmett (Pratt), an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the the mythical Master Builer, the key to saving the world. Suddenly Emmett finds himself drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant hellbent on gluing the universe together. Ferrell will play the main villain President Business with Neeson playing his powerful henchman Bad Cop. Meanwhile, Offerman will voice a pirate obsessed with getting revenge on President Business. Oh, and if that wasn't enough, the lovely Alison Brie has also landed a role as a member of Emmett's team with a powerful secret.
Some people think the idea of a LEGO movie sounds ridiculous, but at least it sounds better than Battleship and is coming from two directors who have proven themselves to be truly gifted with comedy in the animated and live-action world. I think there's the potential for a lot of fun, and not just a cash-in like with most films based on toys or games. A cast like this certainly helps too, and we're definitely looking forward to seeing how this one pans out. Stay tuned for more.
