William Fichtner Replacing Dwight Yoakam as 'Lone Ranger' Villain
by Ethan Anderton

Last summer, singer turned actor Dwight Yoakam was brought in to play a villain in Disney's forthcoming take on The Lone Ranger from director Gore Verbinski of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. However, last week it was announced that a scheduling conflict would keep Yoakam from sticking with the role. Now Deadline reports a decent switch has been made that should make everyone happy as William Fichtner (The Dark Knight, Blades of Glory) has snagged the role now instead. Fichtner will be playing Butch Cavendish, the leader of the gang that attacks the ranger (Armie Hammer) and leaves him for dead.
Fichtner joins a cast that also includes Johnny Depp as our heroes trusty sidekick Tonto along with Barry Pepper, Tom Wilkinson, Helena Bonham Carter, James Badge Dale and more. We're still not entirely sure what adventures The Lone Ranger and Tonto will have in this big screen version of the classic hero, but Disney is gearing up to start shooting The Lone Ranger in Texas and New Mexico staring mid-October, aiming for a December 21st, 2013 release next year. With a cast like this, I'm full interested in seeing how this turns out, especially if it kicks off a promising franchise just like The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Don't you mean a release date of December 21st, 2013? I doubt they can start shooting in mid-October and have it ready for December 2012.

I'd actually like to see him in a lead role, he's a good actor and often wasted as a villian.

I like how Anderton put the movies where Fichtner had the least amount of screen time in. Good job there buddy.

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time that Yoakam has turned down a role due to a scheduling conflict and it is not the first time that William Fitchner has replaced him. Yoakam was set to play the Bank Manager at the beginning of the Dark Knight, but pulled out and was replaced by Fitchner.
