Worth Watching: Stellar Original Sketch/Clip Pitch Video for 'Looper'
One of the recent trends we've started seeing over the past few months has been filmmakers releasing the pitch videos they show to sell their projects to studios online for fans to see. Joe Carnahan has done it twice now (with Daredevil and Gemini Man), Kevin Tancharoen made one for The Hunger Games, and we even saw one for a new take on Halloween. Rian Johnson's awesome time travel film Looper is one the best original science fiction ideas to come through Hollywood in a long time, and on its Tumblr page, Johnson released his own pitch video using footage from other movies to show off the tone he was hoping to achieve.
Here's the original promo pitch reel for Rian Johnson's Looper, posted in high def on Rian's Vimeo:
It's always interesting to me to see how close these early designs are to the final product, and in this case, it looks like Johnson didn't have to make any big concessions because it's pretty dead on with what we saw in theaters. Rian's cousin Zach did the sketches you see, and he also created some amazing artwork for sale based on Rian's films that you can purchase here. Rian is clearly loving this whole process, answering fan questions on Twitter, crashing a midnight screening of his own movie dressed as an Arclight employee, and releasing a director's commentary that you can listen to in the theater right now. O_o Wow.The movie as it is now is very good (imho) but without certain plot elements it would have been much much grittier."Do I die now as punishment for letting my self off the hook or do I kill my self knowing I will die in my future by my own hand? " a real "looper"."Can I escape my own death?" Heavy stuff.
it's gonna be great on Oct 14, 2012

I have not seen Looper yet, but I am curious about something... In most promos I have seen the person sent back in time is wearing a hood, but not Bruce Willis's character - the older Joe. Why? Wouldn't it make sense to also have the old Joe wear a hood and then get shot. Then again, that means no movie. Am I missing something? Is it actually different in the movie.

Go watch the movie and you will understand why he does not have a hood on.
