Catching Fire / Zoe Aggeliki

Well, that was fun. Originally, Mia Wasikowska and model turned actress Zoe Aggeliki were said to be on the shortlist to take a role in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to the blockbuster adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling book series. But then a story came along saying Sucker Punch star Jena Malone was the top choice to take the role. Well, apparently Malone and Aggeliki both auditioned for Francis Lawrence and we're now full circle as Deadline reports it's Aggeliki "in the most serious talks" to play Johanna Mason, a previous victor of The Hunger Games heading back to the arena.

In Catching Fire, previous victors of past Hunger Games are summoned back into the arena for the Third Quarter Quell, or 75th Hunger Games, which also brings Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) back to the bloody event. Mason has "a wicked ability to murder," wielding an axe as her weapon of choice and a ruthless sense of survival. It's a role that will surely mark a breakthrough for Aggeliki whose acting talents won't be seen until her appearance in R.I.P.D. with Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds and the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, but she has a lot of fans to impress when the film hits theaters on November 22nd, 2013. Production begins this September so stay tuned for more.

Shame on you, Hollywood! Shame on you! When I hear "model turned actress" it bothers me.

Scarlett Johannson. Has Johanna in the name. But she may be busy...

I'm all for up and coming actors to get their big break, but in this case, i think the producers would be very wise in choosing Jena Malone. johanna is a very complex character- vicious, sarcastic, loyal, damaged- and to put that onto an unknown actress is very very risky. Malone's experience and diversity of roles would, in my opinion, make a very memorable johanna mason.
