Zoe Saldana Joining the Stacked Female Line-Up for 'Machete Kills'?

For a guy whose first movie cost around $7,000, Robert Rodriguez has an impressive amount of connections in Hollywood these days. He worked with some of the industry's biggest stars in Sin City (and will again in the sequel), and his upcoming Machete sequel, Machete Kills, reunites him with original cast members Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jessica Alba, adds hotties Amber Heard and Sofia Vergara, and has Mel Gibson as the villain. Now it appears Rodriguez is using one more of his connections, because Trejo revealed in an interview with Moviehole that Zoe Saldana is the latest actress to join. More below!
There's no word yet on Saldana's, but Trejo did mention Vergara, Alba, Rodriguez, and Saldana altogether and said, "Guess what? I get to kiss all of ‘em." Oh, Machete, you scoundrel. Meanwhile, Robert Rodriguez spoke with Empire at Cannes and said the previous plot synopsis "was all fake." He elaborates:
"Machete is recruited by the President, that’s true, but there’s no cartel leader and the weapon in space is just one of our early story ideas. That said, there is still a space element, for sure. We’ve given the character a much bigger playground. It’s going to be like a James Bond movie, with a Bond-style villain.”
This isn't exactly a secretive J.J. Abrams or Christopher Nolan movie, so I'm not sure why they needed misdirection about a Machete sequel in the first place. Trejo has also said this will be "a lot more over-the-top" than the previous film, and I'm not sure if that's a great thing or not. I liked Machete, and I'm hoping they don't use the Crank series as a template because I loved that first movie and thought they went a little too far with the silliness on the second one. Thoughts?

I know a lot of people hated the first one and probably have no intention of going anywhere near the sequel, but I for one cannot wait! I loved Machete, I love Trejo! I agree that Crank 2 went a little overboard, although I still enjoyed the hell out of it. I hope Rodriguez doesn't feel the need to take it to that level.

i loved the first one - but this one is starting to sound like danny trejo and a bunch of 110 pound chicks trying to act tough........not good, not good. i want trejo kicking major ass in a variety of crazy ways (remember the guts used as a rope? the weedeater?) i liked machete because of DT badassedness.....i want that to continue in the sequel.

Robert Rodriguez always choose right guys, he is skillful in that, my argument is with action in some of his movies Action must be spectacular, memorable, climaxical, hot, surprising in first machete i didnt see such things. very ordinary and perfunctory action with great anti climax between two ok villain (trejo/seagal) i think film with name of "Machete Kill" deserve ultimate action scenes
