Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler Courted for 'Guardians of the Galaxy'?
Casting is underway for Marvel's cosmic superhero ensemble Guardians of the Galaxy from director James Gunn. We've heard more than a few names for the shortlist trying to lock down Peter Quill (aka Starlord), and now two more big names have come out of left field, but not for that role. Latino Review (who has always been reliable with comic book scoops) has heard that Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are among the names being considered as Marvel has inquired about their availability for this film. This would be the third comic book movie for Carrey, but the first for Sandler. So what role would they have? Read on!
That remains unclear, but I wouldn't expect Sandler to suit up as a superhero. Carrey might be able to take a physical role, but the more likely option is that these two are being considered for voicing Rocket Raccoon or the other visual effects heavy team member Groot. Carrey's collection of funny voices is pretty much limitless so it would make a good fit. Sandler is a little less skilled in that arena, but still has some flare that could work for Rocket. Either way, this could be huge for both the actors. We'll see Carrey next in Kick-Ass 2 (see a first look photo here) and Sandler is probably farting in a can somewhere. Oh, and just to add more names for Peter Quill, apparently Wes Bentley, Cam Gigandet and Chris Lowell are also testing.
Please Keep Sandler away from this. I've lost all respect for him after these last bunch of movies he's put out.

Who here is familiar with the source material? I'm not, and I'm wondering how to feel about Carrey specifically here. Guess we don't know the role, though.

Ray Winstone for Rocket Raccoon. But only if you want to keep the accent. Otherwise please keep Adam Sandler out of this. The distance between this project and Sandler should be galaxies apart.

I don't know GoG well, but it deserves better than Sandler.

Sandler does not fit for this kind of movies. why would they even considering him?

Lets be fair Adam Sandler doesnt fit any any movie these days.

It was logical the choice of a know voice for characters like groot or rocket racoon, but, please. please. Adam Sandler only have one "funny" voice and it's crap
TOONFED on Jan 23, 2013
Carrey is hardly the worst voice they could use for Groot but it would be kind of a waste as he doesn't ever have much to say. Rocket is more lively, but someone like Ricky Gervais would fit it a lot better. This is all speculation though, if you think about it, they've got nearly six guys playing Starlord at this point...

No Sandler please.

I dont agree with either. But im a fan of Jim Carey and if he did get the role i think he would take it seriously in his effort to do the character and possibly surprise us...but the mentioning of adam sandler made me throw up in my mouth

"and Sandler is probably farting in a can somewhere" - thank you for that!! That truly gave me a laugh, because in all honesty there's a 50% chance its true!

If Gunn messes this up he'll never get another big time movie. Hope he knows what he's doing.

I'm a HUGE fan of 'Super' and I have faith in his ability to make this something good.

This would be Jim Carrey's 4th, not 3rd. Don't forget The Mask.
TV Cox on Jan 25, 2013

CMAG on Jan 26, 2013
