Alan Cumming NOT in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' as Nightcrawler

Damn, it sounds like Bryan Singer really is going all out for X-Men: Days of Future Past. In addition to Jennifer Lawerence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and James McAvoy reprising their roles from X-Men: First Class, original X-Men stars Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Hugh Jackman are all coming back as well. Now McAvoy has let another cast member out of the bag as an interview with Heat Radio (via Digital Spy) revealed that Alan Cumming will be back as Kurt Wagner, but in the Munich circus he was known as The Incredible Nightcrawler! Read on!
That just leaves heroes like Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) and Cyclops (James Marsden) as the remaining cast members not revealed through some reliable channel to make a return. We're still not sure just how big of a role the returning X-Men will play, but there have been rumblings that it's not a very long time travel sequence, and young and old Professor X (James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart) will not be meeting. Perhaps the young crowd just sees a window into the future for an action sequence with the X-Men fighting Sentinels or being imprisoned somehow. Either way, we can't wait for the film on July 18th, 2014. Sound good?
UPDATE: It appears as if James McAvoy was misinformed. Alan Cumming himself took to the radio (via X-MenFilms.com) and said, "No, they haven’t [asked me to return]. Someone asked me that the other day and I said no. I know the one that’s coming up shoots this spring, but I wouldn’t be available anyway. I don't think they have. I was going to meet my manager for dinner later, I was going to ask him about it, but no, I’m sure they would’ve told me, had they approached.” So unless producers just haven't gotten a chance to reach out to Cumming yet, it sounds like McAvoy misspoke. This could be an effort to keep things secret, but they haven't done that with any of the other cameos. Stay tuned.

I'm still a bit bent that he seems as though he's using this movie as an excuse to erase X3 (I liked it just fine, shut up) but he's winning me over with every new announcement. This one is big.

I liked The Last Stand a lot...but the fact that he is bringing back Ellen Page and has said that he isn't 'ignoring' any of the previous films tells us something. I mean, sure, maybe he won't fully acknowledge and link back to that film, but I don't think he'll be ignoring it completely.

Bryan Singer said that X-Men: Days of Future Past acknowledges every single one of the X-Men films that have been released in the big screen. All of us are counting with the fact that Bryan Singer is using this particular story line to merge the new characters with the ones from the original trilogy. And hopefully fix the events that X-Men: The Last Stand unfortunately took. But not ignore them.

Heh, I wonder how much in common it will have with Origins (kinda liked, kinda didn't). The impression that I got from the news so far was that he could use the time element (whatever it is) to retcon things that he didn't like. As someone who knows nothing about the comics or shows, I didn't see any real problems with X3. I liked it much more than the first one, much less than the second.

I don't think he'll retcon it completely. The thing is so many integral characters died that it really did a number of the X-men mythology. It'll still exist just as an alternate universe.

So, Singer has to explain ALL of this: -why is Emma Frost a little girl in "Origins" and then a woman in "First Class", even though "First Class" is supposed to take place AFTER "Origins" -why is Bolivar Trask a black man of average height in "Last Stand", and then a Caucasian dwarf in this movie -why hasn't Moira MacTaggert aged a day since the 60s -how Charles Xavier lost all of his hair -the fact that the first movie established that Magneto built Cerebro, yet Beast builds Cerebro in "First Class" -Mystique acting like she doesn't know Xavier or Beast -Sabertooth looking more bestial in the first movie than in "Origins" -Xavier walking in "Origins" and in the flashback scene of "Last Stand" -Nightcrawler existing despite Mystique showing no romantic attraction towards Azazel -Hank McCoy mutating into Beast due to the after-effects of Cerebro 2 in "X2", and then his younger self mutating into Beast due to a serum in "First Class" -Sebastian Shaw being shown not only alive and well BUT being friends with Hank McCoy in "X2" -the fact that Sabertooth acts like he doesn't know Wolverine in the first movie -the X-Men using the X-Jet in the first three movies, and then the Blackbird in "First Class" -the fact that Havok is a teenager in the 60s, yet Cyclops (Havok's brother) is a teenager in the 80s

That doesnt necessarily mean Azazel isnt, Flemyng had so much makeup on you could barely tell it was him anyway.

Anyone from Origins on board? Get Sabretooth to drop by? I think that's about all that I would take... though whoever played the younger Stryker did better than I expected. This movie (in the past) takes place in that vague region of time, right?

As much as I enjoyed Liev's performance as Sabretooth, I feel like Origins is probably the best one for the X franchise to ignore, especially since Singer can just retconn most of it (and the unfortunate Last Stand) with this new film.
Outlaw on Mar 12, 2013

I sort of agree but Liev was brilliant. Can't we just ignore the movie and keep him?

Okay, I don't think anyone who was exclusive to Origins is back...but that movie had Wolverine as it's main character and Proff X in a cameo..and they are back...that's good enough.

'That just leaves heroes like Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) and Cyclops (James Marsden) as the remaining cast members not to make a return' Why would they, both are killed in the 3rd film. Sure 'younger' versions could be cool, but I really don't see a credible way to bring these back to life without making the 3rd film completely debunked.

Time travel is involved. Who knows in what ways they'll use it/ But they can change history.

Great news indeed. That leaves Kelsey Grammer's Beast as the only surviving team member from X2 & X-Men: The Last Stand not yet confirmed to return. Which is interesting, because of all the X-Men he is the only one who is also appearing in the First Class-storyline along with Xavier and Magneto. Am I the only one btw who was really pissed off Ratner killed off my all-time favourite X-Man Colossus in a random throwaway shot towards the end of Last Stand?? Pretty annoying they can't get him back now.

Almost "nerve wrecking" with 1 tweet a week on who will join, hehe. So, who's left? Will Katie Stuart reprise her role as Kittie Pryde/Shadowcat? She is the main character in this story, it all revolves around her, in the comics. If not, I wonder who will be cast in this role? I'm not sure if they are basing it solely on the comics, there was mentions of Bishop, but he's in the cartoon version of this story, not the comicbook arch. "The Days of Future Past storyline was adapted in the X-Men animated series. The storyline concepts were combined with another alternative future story—that of Bishop and the idea of a traitor within the ranks of the X-Men. Bishop plays the role of Kitty Pryde in the adaptation." It will probably be a mix of all medias, they did include stuff from the VG's in some movies. What about Daniel Cudmore as Colossus? He was in the last 2 X-Men, but a very minor role. Colossus has importance in Days of Future past, and many are quite fond of this "Arnold in steel" character. If they are clever, they will add some hints of "Days of Future Present", or at least show some images of it + maybe Excalibur 🙂

Ah, my bad, I thought Ellen Page(as Kittie Pryde) was out. She's in 😉

The original story is more of the late 80's early 90's Xmen comics travelling to the alt universe . It's just expedient for them to start it with the Hollywood "First Class " actors . ( Also since X3 gets dissed so much , not gonna start from there ) . They are making it epic , tho . A homage to the relevance of the story arc . I personally wish they could get Jackman to agree to play the Wolverine of the alternate universe shorter ( he'd have to crouch more ) , angrier , hairy-er ... and hooked up with Halle ....

Technically the story is totally screwy with Fassbender playing Magneto in this , if on the good side travellling into the alt uni And YES , we do need Colossus. in this , prob as one of the alt uni X-Men....
