The new international trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness just arrived overnight yesterday and showed off the amazing talents of Benedict Cumberbatch as villain John Harrison and the vendetta Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) embarks on to stop his spread of chaos. Now the Bad Robot Twitter account (@Bad_Robot) has called our attention to a retread of that spectacular trailer, but with some bonus footage. The trailer is pretty much the exact same as the one released yesterday, but for those looking closely, there are some new bits to be seen. The Bad Robot Twitter account has been a lot more active lately, and I think we might be seeing more exclusive stuff like this from many of their projects in the future, so be sure to follow. Watch!
Here's the alternate trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, directly from Bad Robot:
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated everything the fleet stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a "one man weapon of mass destruction."
Star Trek Into Darkness is the sequel to the J.J. Abrams-directed reboot of Gene Roddenberry's original science fiction series. The screenplay this time was co-written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof. Most of the crew is back, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin & John Cho. Paramount is bringing Into Darkness to theaters May 17th this summer.

Just a quick note here, over on the websites dedicated to trek fandom the trailers have been dissected and most people (around 70-80% of fans) have said that the ship which crashes is not Kirk's Enterprise. So, we still don't know exactly which ship it is. In fact there's a screengrab on the web from the trailer which shows the engine design of the ship that crashes and the shape is more towards the NX-01 from the Enterprise TV show (the one with Cpt Archer) rather than like the Enterprise from JJ's 2009 movie. Plenty of surprises are still in store for this movie, but my own advice is to NOT read spoilers and to avoid any future trailers from this point on.

The bits high up in space are clearly the Enterprise--you can see the ship's number on the hull where the saucer section in burning up. However, the crash into the bay is quite obviously a different ship. Take a look at the angle between the nacelles and the pilons supporting them. They come in underneath at a near 90 degree angle on the Enterprise. Compare that to the ship in the bay--not even close. Honestly, I doubt that is even a "crash." Looks more like a 9/11-styled suicide run. The ship appears to turn into the city, though I could be mistaken.
