'Angry Birds' Movie Picks Up Disney & Sony Animation Co-Directors

Last winter, Despicable Me producer John Cohen boarded the adaptation of Angry Birds, the mobile game which sees a group of birds with various skills fighting an evil army of green pigs who have stolen their eggs. Now the project continues to move forward as Deadline reports Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly will co-direct the 3D animated film for Rovio Entertainment, the company behind the game. This will mark the directorial debut for the duo, but they're no strangers to the animation world. One spent 19 years working in animation at Disney, while the other has been at Sony since 2003, working on some of their biggest films.
Kaytis worked as an animation supervisor on Tangled and more recently as an animator on Wreck-It Ralph, including overseeing the awesome end credits, taking cues from various video games of the past and present. Audiences will see his work again later this year since he also worked as an animation supervisor on Frozen. Meanwhile, Reilly worked as a storyboard artist on films like Hotel Transylvania and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (as well as the sequel). He also served as head of story at Sony Pictures Animation. Here's hoping they can hit a home run for Rovio's first feature film.
