Following several iterations that included directors like Gabriele Muccino and actress Katherine Heigl, the supernatural romance The Age of Adaline seems to finally be getting off the ground. Deadline reports Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Lakeshore Entertainment have set Blake Lively to star in the film about a 29-year-old woman who is rendered ageless after an accident. After years of a solitary life, she heads out on and epic but isolated journey, until she meets a man who might be worth losing her immortality. Lee Toland Krieger, who was behind the stellar Sundance selected Celeste and Jesse Forever, is directing.
Krieger is a great director, with the indie The Vicious Kind with Adam Scott also in his past. This sounds like just the kind of film that would also end up on the festival circuit, maybe showing that Blake Lively is more than just a pretty face, but Lionsgate is already set to release the film, so that might not be in the cards. In addition, Ellen Burstyn will also star in the film, likely as the older version of the ageless character, possibly telling the story in flashback. We can only assume that at some point her agelessness will be effected by her newfound romance, and she will eventually age, but we'll see how it plays out. Sound good?
