Last summer we learned that director Peter Bogdanovich was getting behind the camera for his first non-documentary film since 2001. When the film surfaced, it was titled Squirrel to the Nuts with Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach producing and Owen Wilson taking the lead. But when Jennifer Aniston took the female lead earlier this year, the film was supposedly going by the title She's Funny That Way. We're not sure which title will stick, but THR has word that "Saturday Night Live" veteran and MacGruber and The Watch star Will Forte has joined the cast, but he's not the only new cast member getting involved.
A separate report from THR also has The Amazing Spider-Man villain Rhys Ifans and Bad Teacher star Lucy Punch taking roles along with Jake Hoffman (son of Dustin Hoffman). For those just joining us, the film follows a married Broadway director (Wilson) who solicits a hooker-turned-actress and helps her with her career. Forte is playing the playwright of Wilson's show, and Aniston is his self-involved therapist girlfriend. Meanwhile, Ifans is a movie star being directed by Wilson and becomes attracted to the director’s wife (Kathryn Hahn); Punch is an Eastern European escort while newcomer Ahna O’Reilly is a reformed escort. Finally, Hoffman is just a member of the staff of the hotel at which the director and his wife are staying. With this cast and Bogdanovich back behind the camera, this could be something special.
