Brit Marling Reteaming with 'Another Earth' Director for 'I Origins'
by Ethan Anderton
April 30, 2013
After delivering one of the more buzzed about films at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival with Another Earth, director Mike Cahill and star Brit Marling (who also co-wrote the festival favorite with Cahill) will reteam for a new sci-fi drama called I Origins. In addition, Deadline reports Michael Pitt ("Boardwalk Empire"), Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Steven Yeun ("The Walking Dead") and Archie Panjabi ("The Good Wife") will star in the film about a molecular biologist (Pitt) and his brilliant lab partner (Marling) who uncover evidence that may change society as we know it.
There are no other details at this time, but coming from Cahill, we can probably expect another grounded but intriguing sci-fi story with character driven drama at the core, much like Another Earth. This sounds like it could be another film we might see on the festival circuit, especially with this kind of cast assembling. Honestly, I'm quite interested in seeing what someone like Yeun can do outside of the zombie drama series on AMC, and Marling is a star on the rise with The East hitting theaters later this year (watch the trailer here). We'll keep an eye on this project and update when more information surfaces.
