Coen Brothers Likely Making 'Hail Caesar' with George Clooney Next

Right now the Coen Brothers are enjoying quite a bit of acclaim for their folk music flick Inside Llewyn Davis, but they've already got their eyes on what could be their next film, and it could reunite them with an actor from their past. Speaking with Thompson on Hollywood, Joel and Ethan Coen were asked about a rumored project called Hail Caesar, a comedy with George Clooney. Joel had some good news saying, "We’ve been working on that one. There’s a good chance that would be next." Ethan added, "It’s about the movie business and life and religion and faith. Faith and the movie business. It’s still George.” More below!
Previous details peg Clooney as playing, "a 1920s matinee film idol who takes on an Ancient Rome epic," and that sounds fun knowing the kind of chumpy, makeshift pack leader he played in O Brother Where Art Thou? awhile back. In fact, the film has been said to be the third film in what is dubbed the "Numbskull Trilogy." Much like Edgar Wright's Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, the films don't share a universe or characters, but they feature similar elements and share stars. The second film in this line-up is the less praised Intolerable Cruelty, though that particular comedy isn't exactly terrible, just not as liked. It would be nice to see the Coen Brothers reunite with Clooney, especially with a comedy, but we're not sure just how soon this project could come together, so stay tuned.

The 1920s as depicted by the Coen brothers? Hell yes. (think Miller's Crossing, Hudsucker Proxy)
