Comic-Con 2013 Programming Schedule - Complete Movie Listings

It's that time of year again already. The San Diego Comic-Con, taking place a week earlier this summer in mid-July, is just around the corner, and that means they're ready to announce the programming schedule. The full list is revealed on their website day by day this week (we'll update below). You can read through the schedule day-by-day right here. I've highlighted a few of the panels that are related to movies that we're planning to cover here on FS.net, and you'll find an abridged list of only specific film-related panels below. There is still a good amount of interesting movie-related panels this year, so read on for the 2013 schedule!

Thursday - July 18th, 2013:

Video Games to Movies: Is the Golden Age Upon Us?
Join some of the top industry professionals as they discuss the challenges, opportunities and the future of what many are calling the next dominant supplier of franchise films to the studios: Video Game-based movies! Are we in for the long anticipated "Golden Age" of video game to movie adaptations? Expect surprises and a glimpse into what is on the horizon for some of the biggest video game characters/franchises as they begin their journey towards the silver screen! Panelists include Adrian Askarieh (Hitman, Agent 47), Tim Miller (Blur Studios, attached to direct Deadpool feature), Justin Marks (producer, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li), Patrick J O’Brien (VP of EA Entertainment, currently developing films based on Need for Speed, Dead Space, Mass Effect and Dante’s Inferno), C. Moderated by Anthony Breznican (Entertainment Weekly).

The 14th Annual Animation Show of Shows
Ron Diamond (program curator, president of Acme Filmworks and AWN.com) presents the best and newest in international animation. Included is Disney's Oscar winning Paperman along with 10 animated shorts culled from the most notable festivals from around the world. Shows annually at Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney, ILM, Blue Sky, Sony, EA, UCLA, SVA, USC, SCAD, NYU, RISD, Harvard and CalArts.

Ghost Ghirls: A Behind-the-Scenes Paranormal Experience with Jack Black
Hey Comic-Con! Jack Black is bringing his new quirky web series Ghost Ghirls to you. Ghost Ghirls follows the hilarious antics of two very blonde best friends, Heidi and Angelica, as they attempt to juggle their personal and professional lives-as ghostbusters. Each episode details the adventures of the funny duo as they work to solve the mysteries behind paranormal phenomena while attempting to convince their clients, some otherworldly visitors, and themselves, that they are legit. The show stars Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci as the two paranormal investigators. It was created by Drunk History's Jeremy Konner, along with stars Lund and Blasucci. You will see exclusive episodes before they premiere online. Executive producer and comedic genius Jack Black will join the creators to ghoul-out for an interactive panel session, share the inspiration for the show, and answer questions.

Europa Report
At the movies, it seems there's so much science fiction, but so little science. Sebastian Cordero's Europa Report seeks to change that. The film depicts a near-future crewed mission to Jupiter's moon Europa, seeking evidence for life in an ocean beneath the moon's icy surface. The movie uses current science to tell a story of discovery and danger. This panel features the film's crew and cast, alongside scientists involved with a NASA concept for a real robotic spacecraft, the Europa Clipper, designed to investigate the mysteries of Europa, including whether it has the elements to support life. Participants include Sebastian Cordero (director, Rage and Chronicles), Bear McCreary (composer, Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead), producer Ben Browning, and actress Karolina Wydra, alongside JPL scientists Steve Vance and Kevin Hand. The panel will be moderated by astronomer Dr. Phil Plait (Slate magazine, Phil Plait's Bad Universe). Space.com called the film "One of the most thrilling and realistic depictions of deep-space exploration since Moon and 2001: A Space Odyssey."

Entertainment Weekly's The Visionaries
From art house cinema to studio blockbuster, these uncompromising directors have electrified audiences with their virtuoso storytelling and breathtaking imagery. Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 500 Days of Summer), Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), and Edgar Wright (The World's End, Shaun of the Dead) lead this master class on the art of filmmaking and a wide-ranging discussion about the future of film.

The Sidekick: Premiere Screening and Q&A
From director Michael J. Weithorn (King of Queens, A Little Help) and writer/actor Rob Benedict (Waiting, Supernatural) comes The Sidekick, the offbeat story of career "sidekick" Max McCabe. When Max begins to lose his youthful zip and is unceremoniously fired by his superhero boss, he finds himself cast adrift in a world that seems to have no use for an aging professional buddy. The panel will feature a 30-minute premiere screening and panel Q&A with Weithorn, Benedict, and cast members Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls, Cloverfield), Martin Starr (This Is the End), Josh Meyers (Behind the Candelabra), Richard Speight Jr. (Band of Brothers), Jordan Peele (Key and Peele), cinematographer Steve Lubensky (Series 7), and other special guests to be announced.

Summit: Ender's Game and Divergent
Summit Entertainment presents a special sneak peek at the highly anticipated film adaptation of the beloved, award-winning novel Enders Game. This is a must-see for fans, who will be shown all-new, exclusive footage and treated to a Q&A with stars Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, and Abigail Breslin, along with producer Roberto Orci (Star Trek Into Darkness) and director Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine). The panel will also feature the first footage ever seen of the futuristic thriller based on the #1 New York Times best-selling novel, Divergent. Cast and filmmakers will complete a Q&A sharing details of the project's transition from book to film. Panelists will include novelist Veronica Roth, director Neil Burger, and cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer, Ben Lamb, Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Christian Madsen.

Voltage Pictures: An Exclusive Preview of The Zero Theorum, Directed by Terry Gilliam
An eccentric and reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence ­or the lack thereof­ once and for all. However, it is only once he experiences the power of love and desire that he is able to understand his very reason for being. Appearing on stage to introduce the special early look at this new film and take your questions are producers Zev Foreman (Killer Joe) and Dean Zanuck (Get Low), and Terry's daughter Amy Gilliam, who worked on the film. Moderated by Gina McIntyre of the LA Times' Hero Complex.

Friday - July 19th, 2013:

The World's End: Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost Reunited
The director and stars of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz have joined forces for a third movie-and it's "Barmageddon," their biggest yet. As ever, they're as happy to be here as you are. So expect candid chatter and spirited surprises as they take the wraps off their new comedy, which Focus Features is opening nationwide in the U.S. on August 23.

Veronica Mars Special Video Presentation and Q&A
Join cast members Kristen Bell, Francis Capra, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Jason Dohring, Ryan Hansen, Chris Lowell, Tina Majorino and Krysten Ritter along with producer and director Rob Thomas in a panel moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Jensen. Fresh off the set of the film that was funded by over 90,000 devoted fans through Kickstarter, attendees will have an opportunity to see exclusive footage, hear details about the production, and ask the cast and producers questions about this upcoming movie.

Universal: Kick-Ass 2 and Riddick
Universal Pictures presents an all-star panel featuring talent from two of its highly anticipated summer films. In attendance will be stars and filmmakers from the action-comedy Kick-Ass 2. Attending from Riddick will be the action-adventure's star/producer Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6), along with actors Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and Dave Bautista (The Man with the Iron Fists) and Riddick's writer/director David Twohy (The Fugitive).

The Feature Film Art Department: The Art of Collaboration-and the Collaboration of Artists
How do as few as five - or as many as 50 - artists work together to create a coherent, believable world in which to stage the action of the modern motion picture? Members of the art department of Captain America: First Avenger discuss working on the film in Los Angeles while the film was shooting in London. Panelists include moderator and supervising art director John Dexter (also Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3), conceptual model maker Jeff Frost (Star Trek Into Darkness), lead vehicle designer Daniel Simon (Tron: Uprising), graphic designer Karen TenEyck (The Lone Ranger), and set designer and assistant art director Clint Wallace (Men in Black 3, Enders Game as art director).

The Character of Music
Composer and executive poducer teams discuss the dynamics of music in film and television. Bear McCreary and Jonathan Steinberg (Black Sails), Brian Reitzell and Bryan Fuller (Hannibal), and Dino Meneghin and Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf) will all discuss their working relationship, how music plays a character in their stories and the intense process of scoring their projects. The panel will be moderated by director of film and TV relations Anne Cecere of BMI and Chandler Poling, president of White Bear PR and feature a Q&A. Attendees will get a sneak peek into the work and receive fun giveaways.

A sneak peek at David Hayter's directorial debut, the action werewolf thriller Wolves, followed by a Q&A panel with David Hayter (X-Men, X2, Watchmen) and stars Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) and Lucas Till (X-Men:First Class).

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 -- You remember Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs -- Flint Lockwood invented a machine that turned water into food, and it worked, but it also unleashed a dangerously delicious tsunami of food weather and Flint was forced to destroy it. RoboCop -- In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years -- and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. Making Roger Rabbit: 25th Anniversary
The making of Who Framed Roger Rabbit is revealed with a world class panel of animators led by legendary producer Don Hahn and featuring a special appearance by the voice of Roger Rabbit himself, Charles Fleisher. The panel includes animation masters Andreas Deja and James Baxter, animator/writer/historian Tom Sito, and special effx wizard Dave Bossert, along with incredible clips and stories from the making of this classic film.

At the Drive-In Featuring Metallica
Join all four members of Metallica, one of the most influential rock bands in history -- James Hetfield (vocals, guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Kirk Hammett (guitar, background vocals), and Robert Trujillo (bass, background vocals) -- along with director/writer Nimród Antal (Kontroll) and producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth) for the world premiere of the theatrical trailer, poster, and an exclusive preview of footage, followed by a discussion on the making of this groundbreaking 3D motion picture. Metallica Through the Never stars Metallica and rising star Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider- Man 2) and combines a bold narrative and a spectacular never-before-seen live performance of the band's most iconic songs created exclusively for the film, which will be released by Picturehouse in North America on September 27, exclusively in over 300 IMAX 3D Theatres, and will expand into additional theaters on October 4.

Movie poster artist Drew Struzan (creator of the Star Wars, Back to the Future, and Indiana Jones movie posters) is joined by celebrity guests and the film crew behind the documentary feature film about his career, set to premiere this summer. Enjoy movie clips, poster giveaways, and free movie tickets.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Preview Their Upcoming Lineups
Legendary Pictures: Godzilla -- An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche, with David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are the executive producers, alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira. The film is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.
Legendary Pictures: Seventh Son -- The fantasy action adventure Seventh Son takes audiences to a time long past, where evil is about to be unleashed. Jeff Bridges stars as Master Gregory, a Falcon Knight who imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) years ago. Now escaped, she seeks vengeance, and Gregory has only until the next blood moon to train a new apprentice (Ben Barnes), the seventh son of a seventh son, to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Oscar nominee Sergei Bodrov directs an international cast that includes Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, and Djimon Hounsou. The film is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.
Warner Bros. Pictures: 300: Rise of an Empire -- From producer Zack Snyder, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present a new chapter in this epic saga, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Xerxes and told in the same breathtaking visual style as the blockbuster 300. Directed by Noam Murro, 300: Rise of an Empire takes the action to a fresh battlefield-on the sea-with a cast of both new and returning stars, led by Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, David Wenham, and Rodrigo Santoro. Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Bernie Goldmann produce, with Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad again collaborating on the screenplay.
Warner Bros. Pictures: Gravity -- From director Alfonso Cuarón comes the sci-fi Thriller Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). On a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes, leaving them completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further into the terrifying expanse of space.
Warner Bros. Pictures: The LEGO Movie -- From directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of 21 Jump Street comes the first ever full-length theatrical LEGO adventure, The LEGO Movie, about a perfectly average LEGO minifigure named Emmet who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared. The original 3D computer animated story stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, and Alison Brie, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.

Film and TV Production Designers of the Art Directors Guild
In collaboration with a highly skilled art department, the production designer lays out the plan that will create small worlds to warm the heart, and entire civilizations to fire the imagination. Moderator Jim Bissell (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) joins panelists Darren Gilford (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy), Corey Kaplan (Scandal, The X-Files), Alex McDowell (Man of Steel), and Robert Stromberg (Oz the Great and Powerful, Avatar).

Star Wars vs. Serenity
Without question, Serenity fans and Star Wars devotees are two of most passionate groups in fandom. From the ongoing charity work of the Browncoats and the 501st/Rebel Legion alike, fans have taken these two massive science fiction franchises far beyond the screen. Now, Dark Horse is set to bring these two groups together for exclusive announcements, games, prizes, and more. Join Dark Horse PR director Jeremy Atkins, editor-in- chief Scott Allie, and Dark Horse resident Jedi Randy Stradley, a cast of writers and artists, and even a few surprise guests, for what is sure to be one of these year's most memorable programs!

Lionsgate - Featuring I, Frankenstein and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
I, Frankenstein stars Aaron Eckhart and Yvonne Strahovski appear with film director/writer Stuart Beattie and graphic novel author/writer Kevin Grevioux. Plus, the cast of the highly anticipated second installment of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes to Hall H for the first time. Panel moderated by Fandango chief correspondent Dave Karger. Never-before-seen footage is showcased from both films. Includes Q&A opportunity.

Entertainment Weekly's Women Who Kick Ass
Fierce, fearless and flat-out fantastic, these female actors have left fans breathless. Michelle Rodriguez (Fast and Furious franchise), Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany, Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), and others open up about the power and privilege of playing women who redefine the rules and refuse to yield.

Spotlight on Leonard Maltin
He's been called America's most knowledgeable film critic and historian, and he's the author of more than a dozen books on motion pictures and animation, in addition to his annual (and bestselling) Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide, a book no lover of film can be without. This year, he's a Comic-Con special guest and for this hour, Leonard Maltin will be interviewed by his longtime friend Mark Evanier.

ComiKev 2013: Kevin Smith Uses His Mouth on You in Hall H
After all the interesting and exciting movie panels are over, Hall H belongs to a middle-aged man who hasn't made a flick in years! It's not Saturday night in Hall H ’til the Fat Lady sings…and that fat lady is the flight-challenged writer/director/podcaster/author/actor Kevin Smith! Ask ComiKev questions about the forthcoming Clerks III, or Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, or his AMC show Comic Book Men! Watch Kev over-answer while sweating profusely! Get in on a tradition and wrap up a busy Saturday with the Clown Prince of Comic-Con!

Harry Potter: Still Magic!
The Harry Potter book and movie canons are closed (though Pottermore and Universal's Wizarding Worlds are open). Sixteen years after we first went to Hogwarts, fans are still discussing, creating and gathering online and in person to share their love for J. K. Rowling's stories, and for the fandom! Look back, ahead, and into the Mirror of Erised with forever HP fans, including moderator Heidi Tandy (FictionAlley.org), Joey Richter and Brian Rosenthal (Team StarKid/A Very Potter Senior Year), Mark Oshiro (MarkDoesStuff.com), Harrison Homel (International Quidditch Association), Leslie Combemale (ArtInsights), Alex Carpenter (The Remus Lupins), and Lauren Bird (HP Alliance).
