Dane Cook Voicing Dusty in Disney's Animated 'Cars' Spin-Off 'Planes'

Dane Cook / Planes

Finally! Yesterday, a new trailer for Disney's animated Cars spin-off Planes arrived, and it looked like a weak imitation of Pixar. Now the straight-to-DVD foundation of this film has been solidified as the House of Mouse has just sent over a press release saying that comedian and part-time actor Dane Cook (Dan in Real Life, Mr. Brooks) is providing the voice for Dusty, a small town crop dusting plane who longs to enter the most epic around-the-world air race despite his fear of heights. Originally Jon Cryer was supposed to take the role, but fell away from the project, and we weren't sure whose voice was in the trailer. More below!

Director Klay Hall ("King of the Hill" and "The Simpsons") tries to hype Cook by saying, "Dane Cook brings unmatched charisma and brilliant comedic timing and instincts to the character. He gives Dusty a great edge.” Normally, I'd give Pixar benefit of the doubt for their voice casting, which is always perfect, but this is Disney trying to capitalize on Pixar's property, so it's not exactly up to par. It'd be nice to have this turn out to be an endearing family film, but the trailer just makes it look like a lame imitation of what Pixar stands for in the animation world (most of the time). Thoughts?

Dane cook doesn't get enough credit as an actor. Not that he should attempt any dramatic roles but he's got that comedic gift.

He attempted a dramatic role last year and was actually pretty solid. He's not the same douche he was. he went through a lot of family drama with his brother and parents dying and he's turned into a more mature person and it shows.

How did I not hear about that?

He keeps his private life very private. I wrote that horribly though. he had drama with his brother stealing and then his parents died pretty close together. Watch his sets in LA and you'll see he's a different guy.

dane cook, huh? ...crash and burn.

That is not Dane Cook in the original first trailer. I'm guessing they've replaced some one to give the film more credibility.
