Quadruple Feature Giveaway

It's one of the last weekend's of the summer movie season, but it might just be one of the best weekends. A handful of stand-out indies and great films are releasing in theaters this weekend (or are expanding wide) and that means this is one of the best weekend's to catch a film, or two, or three… or four. If you're a truly hardcore cinephile and decide to catch four films this weekend, the four indies playing in theaters now, the director of one of them - David Lowery of Ain't Them Bodies Saints - will send you a fun care package including a prop from the film, a signed sketch, a mask and anything else they can toss in. This is awesome.

Lowery posted a blog entry on his own site titled August 23rd Quadruple Feature Giveaway explaining the details and info on how to submit your proof (if you decide to see all four films this weekend). News of the deal went viral yesterday spreading quickly around Twitter, helped by movie-lovers like us spreading the word about this. Here's how it works: if you go out and see David Lowery's Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Joe Swanberg's Drinking Buddies, Destin Cretton's Short Term 12 and Adam Wingard's You're Next over the next three days this weekend, David "will send you a custom-made prize in the mail." Yes please.

So what do you get if you submit your tickets? "That prize will be as follows. In my movie, there is a thick police file on Bob Muldoon, which Ben Foster's sheriff character peruses in one scene. I will pull something from this file and augment it with an original handdrawn illustration. Maybe it'll be a newspaper clipping, or a mugshot, or crime scene photos. It could be a map. Or some of Bob's letters, carefully wrapped in evidence baggies." To sweeten the deal, You're Next's producers are tossing in a "handpainted animal mask from the film, signed by director Adam Wingard" plus Drinking Buddies' producers are tossing in "a signed Drinking Buddies coaster." Yes, you get all of that just for going to see these films. Sweet deal for cinephiles.

Beyond supporting four great indie films now playing in theaters, I love this "quadruple feature giveaway" because it's truly a for-the-people, by-the-people kind of offer. All that these filmmakers want need is your support, your commitment to seeing their film in a proper theatrical setting. And in return, they'll give you a piece of their life, a piece of the film, something that'll always be a reminder of your commitment to cinema. Perfect. If I had more time I would go see all four of these myself in theaters (toss in The World's End and that's five great movies to watch). Wow, this is great news. Just today we were brainstorming a movie and date package since we got 2 free tickets from an independent cinema (Grand Lake theater in Oakland, CA) to give out as a prize for a social media contest we are doing. It's nice to see a director connecting with fans while promoting all of indie filmmaking.
