Karen Gillan

Amy Pond is making the leap to Marvel. Yep, that beautiful red-headed actress seen above is going to be playing a villain in Marvel Studio's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Director James Gunn has been hard at work casting the various ensemble alien superhero roles in the movie, lining up actors Lee Pace and Michael Rooker as villains already. Now THR is reporting that Karen Gillan, the 25-year-old actress who played Amy Pond on "Doctor Who" for the last few years, will "play the film's lead female villain." Now this is an interesting choice that should definitely intrigue fans of "Doctor Who" and Marvel.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, being directed by James Gunn, has a cast that currently includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Michael Rooker as Yondu, plus Lee Pace, Glenn Close and likely John C. Reilly. There are still a few more roles left to fill before shooting starts this summer. After getting some recent glimpses at more concept art and the Phase Two preview video, Guardians of the Galaxy is looking quite epic, but it will also be Marvel Studio's biggest risk to date. The Marvel Studios movie will arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014. Stay tuned for more updates.

...and then she has to run up and down a corridor for a few minutes. Gillan's career has been short, but she can act. this is an interesting bit of casting and a big leap for her, and into a film which itself is a tougher sell to standard audiences for Marvel. colour me intrigued.

It's not like I'm trolling or anything, but I thought we were rid of that annoying little woman....

"We"? Speak for the rest of us do you?. I don't think so mate. And yes, it does sound like you're trolling.

Paul Hepburn on Jun 2, 2013

I was, of course, referring to the Royal 'we', but your confusion is understood and forgiven, now go on and play..

Simon124 on Jun 2, 2013

Royal we - The first-person plural pronoun used by a sovereign in formal address to refer to himself or herself. So you're royalty as well as a troll. Nice combo you've got going there.

Spoken like a true republican, good luck with that

Oh stop with the fuss, I'm thrilled to see she's going to be starring in a Marvel movie. I didn't see the entire series of Doctor Who, just a few bits and episodes but she's a fantastic actress, not to mention a very cherry gal. I'm very happy for her.

I'm sure she can nail whatever they've come up with.

Don't watch Dr. Who but she's adorable...

Bl00dwerK on Jun 2, 2013

Michael Roller is not playing a a villain. His character is Yondu.
