Not too long ago, we learned that Adam Sandler was in talks to star in The Cobbler, a new indie drama from Win Win and The Station Agent director Thomas McCarthy. It was said that Sandler will play a shoe repair man with the ability to literally walk in other people's shoes; he can metaphysically step into their lives for a certain period of time, but now The Wrap says the plot is under wraps. But they do add some names to the supporting cast by reporting Dustin Hoffman and Steve Buscemi have landed roles in the film that is already shooting in NYC. Hoffman's role is unknown and Buscemi will play a guy named Manny.
In addition, rapper and occasional actor Method Man has also joined the film along with "Downton Abbey" star Dan Stevens (who recently joined Night at the Museum 3 as the film's villain). The Cobbler became McCarty's next project after his Catholic Church sex scandal drama Spotlight was forced to search for a new home after DreamWorks decided not to move forward with the project. This looks like a promising break from stupid comedies for Sandler (which Buscemi appears in from time to time), and McCarthy has made a handful of indie darlings, so lets hope he can do the same with Sandler.
