Well, it's just raining news for the stars of the Harry Potter franchise. Gary Oldman landed a role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Daniel Radcliffe is playing Igor in a new take on Frankenstein, and now Emma Watson is entering a fairytale world. Variety has word that the star of The Perks of Being a Wallflower is in talks to put on the glass slippers as the Disney princess Cinderella in the studio's new live-action version of the story with Thor and Hamlet director Kenneth Branagh at the helm. The search has been on for the title role ever since the project was announced with Cate Blanchett as the wicked step-mother. More below!
Apparently Watson beat out plenty of other female talent for the role like Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina), but scheduling and other factors came into play that made them not work as well. Honestly though, how could you not choose Emma Watson over the others? She may not be a proven box office draw yet, but having the star of the Harry Potter franchise and the teen-geared Perks of Being a Wallflower helps immensely. Watson will be showing plenty of versatility over the next couple years with The Bling Ring this summer and Noah with Darren Aronofsky in 2014. But what does this mean for Guillermo del Toro's Beauty and the Beast? Stay tuned.
