James Franco

Over the years, we've pointed out several public service announcements from the Alamo Drafthouse, a theater in Austin, Texas that has taken an active and vehement stance against talking and texting in movie theaters in order to preserve the experience for audiences. From a PSA featuring an actual angry voicemail to a contest to create your very own PSA to play before films, it's become a staple of the infamous theater. Now an entertaining Spring Breakers and Spider-Man influenced PSA has popped up which James Franco recorded while he was at the South by Southwest Film Festival over the past couple weeks. Watch!

Here's the Alamo Drafthouse PSA featuring James Franco via Bad Ass Digest:

In Spring Breakers, Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine) & Faith (Selena Gomez) have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper "Alien" promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. Harmony Korine (of indies Trash Humpers and Mister Lonely) wrote and directed Spring Breakers, which premiered at TIFF 2012 and the Venice Film Festival. A24 Pictures released Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers in NY & LA on March 15th and it's expanding this weekend!

I very briefly considered taking my wife to the Alamo Drafthouse while we visit the area next weekend for our anniversary. Alas, we'd rather ENJOY a movie...not worship it. These Alamo Drafthouse "rules" are such a niche fad. Ultimately, the wishy-washy college crowd will move on to a new hype and the chain will disappear.

What? Those rules are common sense. It's just that they have to remember people that are disrespectful and selfish, to behave so that everyone that is actually interested in seeing a movie can get the best out of their movie going experience.

But they've extended into publicity stunts. It's one thing to have attendants that will enforce some common sense rules...it's another situation entirely when these videos get released online on a regular basis. It smacks of arrogance, which is unwise for a service-based company.

All hail the King of Hipsters.
