Just so we're clear, this has nothing to do with Alex Garland's indie sci-fi project Ex Machina. Instead, the new project Machina from Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez is an original and mysterious new sci-fi project which Media Rights Capital has just picked up. Of course, we're dealing with a director who gained attention with his short film Panic Attack about giant robots attacking Uruguay, so this could be something epic. As of now, it seems this new project has nothing to do with the other sci-fi project Alvarez set up at Sam Raimi's Ghost House production banner which was said to be an alien invasion film. Read on!
Heat Vision says this new film will have Alvarez co-writing the script with his collaboration partner Rodo Sayagues and plot details are being kept under tight wraps for now. Though the remake of Evil Dead wasn't a runaway hit, it still pulled in over $97 million worldwide on budget of $17 million, so that makes it a success. We're not sure what happened to the original project that Alvarez set up at Ghost House before Raimi asked him to direct the Evil Dead remake, but we're looking forward to any original sci-fi projects that are able to navigate the studio system. Hopefully we hear more soon.
