Earlier this month, we learned Johnny Depp was in final talks to lead Mortdecai, an adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli's The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, the author's final novel which remained unfinished until satirist and parodist Craig Brown completed it. The crime comedy is being directed by David Koepp, working form a script by relative newcomer Eric Aronson. Now the cast seems to be shaping up rather impressively as Variety reports Contagion star Gwyneth Paltrow and The Impossible star Ewan McGregor are currently in talks for two unknown roles in a story involving a stolen painting and Nazi gold.
The official synopsis of the book says: "Hon. Charlie Mortdecai from adventure to misadventure via Jersey and Moscow to a final showdown in a Buckinghamshire bungalow of unparalleled hideousness. Tackling en route an unhealthy sprinkling of well-seasoned academics, a cryptic monk, an aristocratic Chief Constable, and more spies than you could shoehorn into a black stretch limo, Mordecai finds himself embroiled in another mission of international insecurity." Depp is producing the film with Lionsgate eyeing a production start late this year after he completes Into the Woods but before the actor would have to move on to Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Hopefully more good casting is on the way. Sound good?
