Fede Alvarez Reveals Sam Raimi is Directing 'Army of Darkness 2'?

Sam Raimi

Just one week ago, Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell was joking about coming back as a geriatric Ash for the gestating Army of Darkness 2, which is what producer Rob Tapert revealed Evil Dead 4 would turn out to be. Now it sounds like the film might be getting closer to reality. Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez was asked on Twitter if he would be at the helm of Army of Darkness 2, and the director matter-of-factly revealed some exciting news for fans by saying, "Sam Raimi will!" And since Alvarez has been working with Ghost House Pictures, he would likely be in the loop as to what's going on with the project.

It would make sense for Raimi to come back to the franchise because in addition to working on the script, Alvarez also discussed the possibility of merging the universes of his remake and the original series in a seventh film that would follow Army of Darkness 2 and Evil Dead 2 (the remake's sequel already in development). It would be pretty magnificent if this whole plan came together, but for now, the project is still sauntering through development, so we're not sure how soon either of these sequels might get off the ground, especially with Alvarez taking on Dante's Inferno at Universal. Thoughts?

That's the current fad, I think.

If this isnt a duh moment I dont know what is. Of course Raimi will direct. Its his love child. And Campbell, who just confirmed he's in for AoD2, has stated many times he would only do AoD2 if Raimi directed. Why all the excitement? There was never any doubt.
